JOHN FOREMAN'S DOING CAROLS!! Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww John ... I love him so much, I love him, I love him.

I love carols. I'm all bah humbug Christmas whatever until I get home and the presents get around the tree --- or this year, around the covered heater and the crib scene the Aunt's set up --- and the carols come on and I'm like "yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy Christmas!" But still, Carols just isn't the same without Hugh Jackman ... he used to sing my favourite hymns, Love and Understanding and O Holy Night, and god he used to power it so awesome. And I remember watching him fondly, thinking he's always going to be one of those fabulous actor/singers I'd always keep an eye on, that he'd always be quiet and small. And now lookit him. *sigh* I remember when ... five or six years ago, aye. Sorry, David Campbell, you just don't it the way Hugh did. *sigh* Maybe when he comes back to do Boy From Oz. Jesus, my kingdom for a ticket to Boy From Oz wif Hugh.

We went to see Mrs Henderson Presents upon the Aunt's insistence this evening. Funny how a movie can challenge your notions of prudery even when you think you're a fairly openminded and perverted even creature. It went from absurd and fabulous to slightly uncomfortable when all the boobies came out and then as they got comfortable with the nudity, so did I and the story moved onto the deeper issues of war and loss. And god how very resonant it was to watch actual news footage and then a fictitious depiction of the air raids on London and be a little shocked when you remember the bombings earlier this year. And yet proud, you know, because they went through it once before and they survived that and they did it again.

Judi Dench is such a legend. Everyone know this, you cannot dispute the sheer awesomeness of Judi Dench. And god, she's so beautiful too. I loved her character here, the absurdity, the courage, the colours, the hilarity of her and oh god the subtle emotional power of her. The Aunt was so right when she said "the thing is when Judi Dench gets emotional, you feel it right along with her every single time." God, so true. It was like physical pain when her emotional secret was revealed. I adore her unconditionally, she's like the mentor you as a young woman would want, so awesome.

And omigod Will Young! I frowned a little at the name in the opening credits, knowing I should know that name. Went through the whole film, looking at him, going "gosh he's absolutely faaaaaabbbbb!" And at the end, when the credits ran, the Aunt asked who he was and I nearly hit myself when I remembered and said very loudly "OMIGOD HE'S THE POP IDOL GUY!! OMIGOD!!" They never screened Pop Idol here, did they? They only started with American Idol, didn't they? I almost wished I had watched it, could totally see the charm of him.

Aaargh, it was a fabulous score. Kept wanting to do the Charleston up the main street of Bowral, that great infectious beat and particular chorus melodies. Might pick it up if I see it around.

Gah. Handel's Messiah always makes me want to go back to church just so I can rejoin the choir. Damn this atheist rejection of religion business. *snort*

An hour and a half to present time, w0000000ttt!

film, iscariot, telly
