"the irony is astounding"

It seems like all of my updates are starting with "i haven't updated in a while..." If anyone still reads this, here goes another one of those entries.

It's hard to think about all that's been going on. Grades are finally posted online, but the site is so swamped that we can't get to them UDit sure gets caught with its pants down an awful lot... you'd think they'd anticipate people checking for their grades. oh well. I got the page to work earlier today and things aren't bad. My accume will go up, so that's a plus. I can't be dissappointed in this semester's performance, but i'm not exactly proud of it either. As long as i continue to improve...

Being home is... well it's a change. Not that i have to tell any of you that. I've clashed with the parents a couple of times, but nothing major. Actually i ended up in Columbus unexpectedly the other night. Traffic on 71 at 4 in the morning isn't bad at all, and my brother's car tells you you're going at least 5mph slower than you actually are. I cruised at "80" most of teh way down, but from teh way i was passing people, it had to be closer to 90. Which is curious considering that Brian's '94 Taurus is only supposed to be able to hit 85 according to teh speedometer. Anyway, things are less insane these days. All is well actually.

My high school's "holiday concert" was tonight. What a fucking joke. I'm really glad they didn't offend anyone by calling it a Christmas concert. They must have said "God, Jesus, Noel, Virgin Mary," and countless other blatant Christmas references about 1,000 times. No exageration, we have the most hipocritical school system ever. i'm glad i'm out of it.

On the possitive side of things, it's nice to be reminded how much UD ensembles are an improvement over high school groups. I have to give the top performing groups at my high school credit; the wind ensemble was good, and the chamber orchestra actually made strings sound tolerable. but the shitty groups are really really shitty. And it's sad (or maybe just a rude awakening) to see my old jazz band deteriorate into just above shitty status... i really feel badly for the 3 or 4 kids in it who are really good at what they do. Supposedly we have a trombonist who's playing in NY later this month, and the bass player has always been damn good since he was 14. I wish i'd been in my private teacher's band my freshmen year of high school. fucking virtuosos...

Does anyone else ever sit around and try to lose themself in their newfound free time? I keep reading old issues of Motor Trend and getting all excited about cars. Then i go to my "pissed off driving road," and floor it in my 11 yr old shitbox. Hey, at least it's a 5 spd, and handles pretty well... why did i just admit that to the world?

edited my brother Brian's term paper tonight. It's due at midnight tomorrow. Same teacher i had. still stupid enough to give students her address. But the point is that he's too damn smart. Granted, it's a research paper, and most of the text is paraphrased or quoted, but it's probably a B+ college paper. It kind of sucks to be compared to your 17 yr old brother, who gets 1580 on the SAT's, and wants to retake them to get 1600. i don't think he's ever gotten a B on a report card. Maybe his full ride to college will send some money my way for tuition...
