Two interesting things going on in the L.A. Area...
This Saturday is the Edwardian Ball, formerly held up in the S.F. Area, but now down here for the first time. I'm not planning on attending, but may in the future if they keep holding them. Sounds like fun for Steampunkers and Victorian costumers.

http://www.edwardianball.com/index.html FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) Exhibition-- "Art of Motion Picture Design" is on now, (Jan. 28 to March 29), showing costumes from recent films such as "Elizabeth" and I heard, also "The Duchess" and "Dark Knight" and "Benjamin Button" and other films (but not necessarily all the Academy Nominated costumes, since the Exhibit was gathered before the nominations were announced).
