I applied to an MSW program and just received notice that I need to go for an admission interview.  In the college's admission requirements they state that interviews are done on a selected basis.  I wasn't able to read my letters of recommendation but I was told by the writers that they were "writing strong recommendations". I hope so. I'm afraid the interview is because they are on the fence about me.

Probably not. Applications are super high right now, they wouldn't bother interviewing someone they weren't interested in.

They may have already selected finalists without an interview, and the interview might be for those whose applications weren't immediately the top pick but there are plenty of slots to fill and all applicants are interesting. I wouldn't think it means anything bad, (actually, it's quite a good thing), but it does mean that you have an extra line of competition to cross :)
