I'm in my last semester of undergrad and a double major in Anthropology (archaeology), and Art History. I have a 3.7, four years of archaeology experience abroad, two museum internships, I'm president of the Anthropology Club, President for our National Collegiate Anthropology Society, and a teaching assistant in art history. I frequently attend and present at state and the AAA conferences as well. I've been working at becoming an archaeologist very hard and it's something I wanted since I was 5 years old.
I'm here because I just changed my mind. I love archaeology, and I love art history. I could do both, but I don't want to work in CRM, and I have discovered I really hate the academic politics involved in teaching. But I figured I'd push through it since I am already in so far. This last summer I didn't work in the cuttings like I normally did on digs, but I was moved to a laboratory setting to work on conserving organics we were finding. And I LOVE it. It was exactly what I was looking for all along.
I realize I need to apply to conservation programs now. I'll still apply to archaeology and art history (no reason the spread myself thin), but I don't have the required 16 credits of chemistry. In fact, I have never taken chemistry! I decided to graduate in December, and then spend two semesters and a summer acquiring the 16 credits from a community college. I figured saving myself a little money and not destroying my GPA if I don't ace everything would be a good move.
I suppose I worry that going back to another school just for a few credits might reflect badly on me, or if it's exactly what I should be doing. I would delay my graduation and stay on in my current school for those credits, but I worry about my GPA if I don't ace it, and also the cost ($1200 a class verse $180 a class).
I just wanted feed back on on my judgment in this, or if anyone has done something similar to me, Thanks!
