how do i figure out which schools are right for me?

So, this may sound a little unfocused, and it is. But i'd like a bit of advice on how to go about selecting schools for a Literature Phd program - do i go with the top twenty in Newsweek? Do I research individual professors at those schools? How do I find out about them? I've noticed people on here discussing the strengths of programs at different universities - how exactly do i go about finding sources that quantify those strengths?

I'd like to focus on mid-war literature and drama, both British and American, because if find the time period, particularly the '30s, fascinating. I just took the GRE and got a good score - 750 Verbal, 570 Quant, 5 on the Essays, which i think should be good for most schools. I need to track down my college professors and see what guidance I can get from them, but I was just wondering if there's a resource I'm overlooking.

sorry if this is repetitive of other posts on here, and good luck to all of us!
