Using Potential Faculty as Sources in Writing Sample

I'm not sure if this question has been posed before; I couldn't find it. I am working on my senior undergrad thesis and would like to use a portion of it as my writing sample. I'm a little wary, however, because a few of the sources I use are by professors currently serving as graduate faculty at schools I intend to apply to. Is this an acceptable move to make? My research has grown in popularity over the last decade, and rather than use outdated sources I prefer using recent scholarship on the topic. How would a professor feel if I quoted their work -- or how would they feel if their work is clearly an important piece of the field and I did not quote it?
