Master's degree in education

I was wondering how important your master's degree school is for a future in education.  As of right now, I want to get a master's and certification in ed, teach for a few years, and then move on to something else... there seem to be a lot of opportunities for nonprofit work, policy-related stuff, curriculum development, or education research/Ph.D. that interest me.  Should I try to get into a good (private??) master's program or will the local state school be good enough along with some teaching experience?

The other thing is, funding. Perhaps with some program I could get a good master's and have someone else pay for it. I want to teach biology/math... there seems to be a lot of demand for this, but perhaps only in urban schools?  I have found plenty of programs where, if you commit to teaching for some number of years in an urban school, you will be paid for your training even, but I'm not entirely sure I want to teach in an urban setting, and I'm a little scared of 4-5 year commitments.  Anyone know of anything less of a commitment
