How to Start my SoP
I have a question about how exactly to start my SoP.
I posted a first draft here months ago, and one of the big critiques was that my intro (and to some degree my whole SoP) lacked some sort of spark and passion that would lead people to continue reading my statement and say "Whoa, she really cares about this!"
The thing is, I can't figure out how to do this without sounding super stupid. The truth is, I initially became interested in marine science when I first visited Sea World (yea, it's lame but true) and my specific interests slowly developed as I read more (I used to spend so much time at my local public library) and started college. I began with an interest in - what else - marine mammals, and then moved to corals and now fishes.
I guess my question is, how do I get my passion across without sounding like I'm 10 years old?
