Hello!

I have a series of questions about the "incest taboo" that is apparently a big deal in grad schools. Here's a brief profile to start:

Undergrad school: state institution in the Northeast
GPA: 3.67
Major/minor: B.A. in French language and lit, minor in psychology
GRE: 460 Q, 680 V

Grad school (current): state institution in the Southeast
GPA (current): 4.0
Degree: M.A. in professional writing (composition & rhetoric concentration, applied writing support area)

I'm beginning work on my Master's thesis now and will be finished with my current program in December. My thesis involves the use of writing as a therapeutic tool in counseling settings. I am planning to apply to M.Ed/M.S. programs in school psychology for the fall of 2010. To that end, I am taking two core psych courses as a non-matriculating student at my undergrad school this summer (to bring my psych minor to a major) and hoping to work in a counseling/rehabilitation center to gain field experience.

Ideally, I would like to return to my undergrad institution to enroll in its school psych M.S. program. However, I've heard that it's not a good idea to go to graduate school where you went to undergrad (hence the "incest taboo")--although I think my situation may be different since I've attended a school in another region for my M.A. Also, do you think that graduate admissions committees are any more or less likely to accept an in-state student who went to that same school for undergrad?

Thanks for any help!
