Hi all! First of all, for those of you who've gotten acceptances, congratulations! That's quite an accomplishment. And for those who are still waiting: take comfort in the fact that there's alot of us in the same boat, and we'll eventually get where we need to be. =)
I have a question about taking grad level classes as a non-degree student. I'm applying to PhD programs in psychology, and I'm just trying to bolster my application as best as I can--it's been 5 (almost 6) years since I finished my undergrad. So I'd like to take a class or two, so I can get to know some professors and hopefully work on a few papers with them. Based on talks with professors and friends in academia, I think this is a good plan.
...so how do I pay for it?
In the city where I'm living now, grad level classes as a non-degree student are CRAZY expensive--like, 1500 a credit hour expensive. (And given that grad classes are a minimum of 3 credits...yikes.) So I obviously can't afford to pay that out of pocket. And I was under the impression that you couldn't get loans for non-degree work. But I KNOW there are people doing it, and I know that they don't all just have 5 grand laying around. So am I missing a really obvious solution?
Does anyone have experience with this? what did you do?
