Self-Published Items
I am applying to Creative Writing MFA fiction programs. My applications ask for publications. I am active in the zine/D.I.Y. community and have self-published (written, designed, printed and distributed) ten zines and one novella. Do these count as publications/should I include them as publications? Or do schools only want things published by well-established journals and such? Being somewhat of an advocate for D.I.Y. culture, I feel that my zines are legitimate publications, but do colleges and universities agree? Did anyone else list their zines as publications? Thanks!
