Hello...
I can't decide which grad school to accept so I was thrilled to stumble across this message board!!
Here is my situation:
I am a senior graduating this spring majoring in Child Psych. I was primarily interested in getting a doctorate in clinical psych, so I applied to some PsyD and Masters programs. I ended up deferring the PsyD interviews since I am not ready to go to school for another 4-5 years straight, leaving me with the Masters...
I got into a counseling masters program in a very reputable school in Dallas. That would take 2 years and I could get certified in LMFT and LPC simultaneously which is great. One issue I have with the school is that the program takes place at a satellite campus which is in some corporate park, so I wouldn't really be at a true campus.
The other school I got into is in Boston, at a school which I consider to be more prestigious. The program is a 1-2 year Masters which ends up costing the same as the full 2 years at the Dallas school. If i did this route, then I would have a harder time getting post grad school job (compared to counseling) unless I pursued a PhD or PsyD, which would however be easier to get into then if I had seriously pursued a doctorate degree directly from undergrad.
I can't decide which I should select!! I'm not sure if the Boston school leads me too dead-ended - what do you do with a masters in psychology???
The other issue - the Boston school's deadline is in the beginning of April, and the Dallas one is due in May. I don't have time to visit either school by the deadline...do you think a school would allow a decision extension for a few weeks??
I am waiting to hear from 2 other counseling programs, but even if I got in, I think the Dallas and Boston schools are my top pics. Any suggestions?? Thanks so much!!
