It's funny, looking over all the discussions in various places about funding because there's this general sense that no funding basically kills people's urge to go to graduate school. I'm seeking an MA in the humanities and no funding is most of the time par for the course.

I guess there's the sense, and correct me if I'm wrong, that it's okay to take out a buttload of loans for medical school or for law school because hypothetically you'll be making enough money to pay them all back. I could be totally misreading my own situation but I'm not that adverse to using loans to pay because my degree is in a high demand area and I've already been scoping out some career options that look both personally and financially promising.

Anyways. So what advice would you offer to someone who is going to have to pay cash for their degree? Is work study worth it or is it better just to get a part time job elsewhere? I know in graduate school you file as an independent no matter what. Do people usually then have a hard time getting things like Stafford loans as long as they don't have a high paying job?

If all else fails I could just take up stripping, I guess. Hehe...
