So I sent in an application ($80 CDN... my most expensive one!) a few months ago (rolling deadline, the priority wasn't even until March 1, I think), and I got an e-mail this evening that read:
We have reviewed your excellent qualifications for [program name]. Unfortunately, the Ontario government is only funding domestic Canadian students at present, and we must first accept a specific number of domestic students before we can even try to make a case to admit an international student.
I hope that may be possible, but it will not happen until mid to late April, so I just wanted to assure you that your application has been received.
With best regards,
[Director of Program]
I had no idea this was how admissions worked in Canada! (Or is it just this particular school?) I have received acceptances from my top choices here in the US, so while it's not imperative that I get into this school, I'd still like to have the option. Unfortunately, since it's also not really a top choice at this point, I don't want to write them back and say that I could provide my own funding (especially since I'd rather not have to pay my own way, if possible). I also don't want them to fight really hard for me if I'm most likely to go elsewhere. If I can make up my mind about where I want to go in the next week or so, I'm thinking it would be wise to thank them but also let them know that I've chosen to attend another school?
Gahhhh, the politics (literally... ha!) of this whole process are ASTOUNDING!
