I have been under the impression that grad schools don't expect fall semester grades. This especially makes sense for December, even January deadlines, as most people including myself don't get official grades until break and student services pretty much shuts down. I requested transcripts in October because I'd heard my school was slow with them ( Read more... )

If they need them they will ask you to send a more recent transcript. Don't worry about it.

I don't think they would. Being as they open application stuff in like october they shouldn't expect them.

Good point, and one of the ones I had in my head somewhere but did not manage to make. :)

I would assume that schools with deadlines after the semester ended, ie January and later, would want transcripts with fall grades, but would understand if fall grades were late in arriving.

I was just trying to explain to my mom today how the entire process destroys yourself confidence and she didn't seem to get it. I hope she's right.

I had this EXACT conversation with my mom the other day. I think she's kind of under the assumption that it's comparable to applying to college.

If it's comforting, my mom has a graduate degree but she only applied to one school for her doctorate then got in with a fellowship. When I applied to MA programs, she said I'd get in everywhere and I didn't. That shut her up.

My first applications are due 1/10 and 1/15, and they were mailed today with my fall grades, but I requested them to be sent that way because I (correctly) suspected that I had a good semester.

Like someone above said, if they want more recent grades, they'll ask. And if your marks haven't been released yet, then they're just gonna have to wait. Most departments are pretty understanding that university burueacracy isn't your fault. :)

P.S. How do you guys deal with the "Don't worry, you'll get in somewhere!" comments from friends and family? I kind of get annoyed because I don't want to assume anything.
they're just trying to be supportive, they dont understand how competitive it is. just say "thanks :)" and use us to vent instead, because the people here understand for real. :)
