1. One hell of a glass spill this morning, on eastbound Folsom Street, from about 11th St through 6th St. In several dispersed patches, the medieval caltrops-like minesharpsfield threatened critical tyre damage or slippery falls. In most areas, it extended far into the motor lane too ... so in the spirit of the
CoExist campaign, my self-interest was definitely enlightened.
From the look of it, a tow-truck took a heavily damaged car from near the car garages near 11th & Folsom, and as it hauled it eastwards, it shed a fresh batch of plate glass (and who knows what else?!) at various points of the route.
I reported it to someone I knew at the Bike Coalition, but learned instead to report it to '311' ... links were poor, but I dug up the
right contact point, and was pleased by the human response at the other end of the telephone! I was equally surprised that, by that point at 11am, I was the first person to report this dangerous spill. They promised to try to resolve the issue within 11 hours - and on my ride home, I didn't see any evidence of the glass. We'll see if I just missed it in the sunlight tomorrow morning.
So, I guess that makes Zac San Francisco's biking hero for the day (woot!). ;-) Nope, no women jumping into my arms ... I need better publicity, and maybe more spandex. ;-p
2. Incidentally, the SF Bike Coalition is conducting its annual survey of bicycle-user and potential bicycle-users of San Francisco's streets. Please
fill it out if you care to.
