well, the columbus, nebraska curse has struck again.
this year's graduating seniors were the first class to not have a student death in like 12 or 13 years. every year one or more students die from each class that passes through any of our three high schools (columbus high, lakeview high (for the more rural kids) and scodus high (private catholic school)). the deaths are usually due to drunk driving. in fact, columbus, nebraska is number one in the country for alcohol-related teen deaths. anyway, two days ago a girl named sara died in a car accident, caused by drunk driving. she had just finished her sophomore year. i knew her a little because she was in my choir class, but i didn't know her that well...still, i cried my eyes out today at her funeral. mr. ritter, my choir director and carolee, our accompanist, called as many choir kids as they could yesterday, and today about 50 of us arrived to sing for her. it was so sad. what's worse is, kids will keep on drinking, even though stuff like this happens. why are people so stupid? *sigh* i'm sure it's only time before we lose someone from my class...
