I still don't think anything is wrong with the piece. I'm guessing we're both OK with it because that style is very common in sci-fi, and we've both read a lot. It's a... genre style.

Like I said in the comments over at answer_key, I totally adored this fic, because it was kind of a crazy concept to come up with, and it worked wonderfully.

Also, out of curiosity - does that article mention the board dimensions for the match between the AI and the 5-dan? (The link is broken.) Do you remember if it was in 13x13 or 19x19 (normal size)? Because, even though beginners learn to play in 13x13 or 9x9, I for one find it much harder to win in smaller boards than the usual size, and everyone I know is pretty much the same. I'm not 5-dan or anything, but I was just wondering, since last I heard, AI was at 5 kyu in 19x19 ^^

I came here after reading ‘Avatar’. This main fic opens out the universe quite a bit. Overall, it feels like a beginning and I would love to read more

In this universe there are two significant changes. Go is a preferred hobby for many assassins, and Sai was never a ghost from the Heian era. (In other words, Hikaru is a normal boy, and he never meets Akira.) This AU doesn't co-exist in canon, in other words--it's completely different. Not _all_ go players are assassins, but a rather large number are. ^_

'Pulling out' and 'retiring' sounded rather sad to me, but perhaps you've used writing fanfic as a path to other things, like writing original fiction, and if its a means of moving on and developing then I guess there’s a sunnier side.

P.S. My reference to Edward Scissorhands was because he was a humanoid invention left unfinished (without proper hands) when his creator died.

*laugh* I'm afraid I'm very inactive compared to what I was like a year or two ago. For most intents and purposes, I'm no longer in fandom. I still moderate hikarunogo, but that's doable because everyone is nice and nothing really requires moderation.
