abstinence-only really doesn't work, okay?

If this post (hell, if the first link) doesn't convince you about the failures of abstinence-only education, ...wow, please get yourself sterilized now.

Some things to keep in mind as you read the links and the post: this government has spent almost $2 billion dollars in the past 10 years promoting these kinds of programs, and has earmarked $200 ( Read more... )

tragedy, lack of faith, health, politics and religion, idiocy, religion, abortion, rants, sex

Because I feel much too sickly atm to read your whole post (I promise I will later) I saw an article related to this in the Dallas Morning News and just about died.

"TEENS WHO DON'T WANT TO HAVE SEX SHOULDN"T LEARN HOW TO PUT ON CONDOMS! THERE'S NO REASON TO FORCE THEM TO LEARN THESE THINGS!"

Yes, because we have so many asexual teens in this society.

And I believe the rate of premarital sex is what, like 80%+? UGH.

Adults are so fucking blind it's not even funny.

OK. Back to bed x_X

what a rant! Ehm, I was convinced with the tiny CNN article on the screen of my smartphone. It's great to read how a government with ehm... strong believes can twist something in so many weird ways to prove their... well, 'right' is impossible, but 'not wrong per sé'. Okay, the obvious answer to any policy that doesn't work is: "then we need more money" (and/or troops.)

I wouldn't mind if many, many people did abstinence. Especially if I get to pick who, and for how long.
(Seriously, though: I belive abstinence can relieve many issues, life becomes simpler without sex. But most people are just to weak: you must really believe in and understand the true benefits. By this propaganda, people get fear and pressure as bad guidance, resulting in hypocrisy and eventually sex under shame and with little education.)

abstinence as a personal choice is great. what i absolutely do not support is abstinence being pushed on children already having sex, and on top of that feeding them lies about sex, abortions, safer sex and reproductive rights.

and it's that so much money is being spent on said lies.

i support having a balanced curriculum that mentions abstinence on top of correct facts about the rest, because many are already having sex in one way or another by then. i do not support lies and one sided teachings that are absolutely worthless and do harm by promoting unsafe behaviour among teenagers (who do more harm by spreading misinformation they may have learned this way to their peers and partners).

Sad thing is it's not nessicarily *just* Bush.

It's also the oodles of parents who think their little Susie would NEVER DO THAT. Or want such a /DISGUSTING/ thing!

what's surprising is that somehow Planned Parenthood still gets a looooot of government grants :D

you'd think the bush administration's first priority on the war on abortion would be to cut off funding to the nation's #1 abortion services provider. even then planned parenthood wouldn't be affected too much, but that is always surprising.

I sort of want to remain abstinent until after the marriage and the marriage works out, but, yeah, I think there're a lot of problems with the way this country sees how... things work.

Uhh.. and then when you ARE married, then you shouldn't be thinking about birth control because you should do babies... :-!
well yea, messed up. I've always had such phobia of pregnancies and pregnant women that it's close to impossible to enjoy sex unless I have a 200 % proof that it will not cause potential damage .. like well, sterilization will do.
