AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Well, for all you newbies out there, if you were wondering what digg and reddit were like before they were popular..news.yc was it. Except maybe not for long anymore. Popular consensus is that open and widely used social bookmarking works well, guess what..it's shit. How much time do you spend on digg/reddit downmodding all the shit you hate only to give up? And since there's so many retards on the site..well, I've started to spend less and less time on those two. Only read programming.reddit, and even that not often cause news.yc had the same thing half the time. And since news.yc had the more intelligent commenters, I was more likely to click on the news.yc links even if the same thing was on proggit or..even if I subscribed to the original feed the item was from.

Sometimes having a niche community makes the community a better place just because it's that much harder for the idiots to join, and because the others who joined took the effort to find it, they put more dedication into making it a better community. Look at Facebook right now and compare to when there were no apps and no open signups. Look at digg and reddit. Look at a LOT of those sites out there that are in the same position. Blargh.

I wonder if it was arrington's wish to kill the site out of spite? Or what? TC isn't the big deal, it's that TC may be the start of it all.
