Observations & Valentine's Day fifth set

Mar 06, 2005 20:54

I had a minimum stress level week, but I ended up being tired for almost every day. I've been thinking a lot, and I think that I work better in the wee hours of the morning when the entire apartment is quiet. I play my music quietly in my room, and I just sit on the bed and read or write or attempt to write or organize a drawer or add more ( Read more... )

Sometimes, you just know things. You know when you should stop speaking, you know when words are not enough, you know when you're poised to leave that you're not going to go.

Oooh! That was just lovely! This seemed very different stylistically from how you usually write. I thought it was great! The images of Ginny coming down the stairs, her passing Sirius the cup, and Sirius drinking the coffee have been imprinted on my brain. =)

I don't think I've ever read any Ginny/Sirius fic before, but this really seemed to fit perfectly with who they are. Thanks for sharing this! =)

Remember when you showed me that Ginny/Sirius fanart by glockgal? Yep, that's when I started to like that ship :) I actually went back to look at it to write this because it made me think of so many aspects that could be apart of their relationship.

I know of only 2 G/S fics worth reading, and if you'd like the links, I'll be happy to give them to you!

And thank you for reading it! Yeah, I've tried second person maybe once before. I know I'm going to try it again soon, probably with an unfamiliar ship, I think.

Links would definitely be great! =)

That piece by glockgal is just so great. I believe it was my introduction to the pairing as well.

I think one of the reasons why it works is because while Sirius is probably 21-22 years older than her, emotionally he's not that far ahead of her. In his mind, he's probably still in the 20-25 age bracket. *curses Azkaban* I see this ship as having so much potential for angst, and yet it also seems so peaceful. Maybe because they take solace in each other?

It's crazy that all of my opinions about this ship stem from that piece of art (although your fic has prompted some more ideas about it). But I think it's definitely an indication of glockgal's talent as an artist that she's managed to convey so much with one drawing.

First there's copperbadge's "Something Better", which is rated R.

The second is by "Monsters, Livid With Desire" musesfool, and that's NC17. An excerpt: He paces the bedroom that night, unwilling to chance the kitchen again, because he's never resisted a dare in his life, never wanted to, and Ginny Weasley is nothing but a dare, a chance to say fuck you to everything and everyone, and he's not going to do it again. He's not.

Both are awesome, in my opinion, and totally worthwhile reading :) Let me know what you think, and if you've gained more insight after reading them!

Yeah, I think you're spot on about one big part of the relationship - Sirius is sort of in the same boat as Ginny, emotionally, and I also think they're two very alike people. I'm also with you on the angst and comfort feeling.

That fanart was definitely gorgeous. Now I've got to take another look :)

Took me awhile to get back to you, but here I am! ;D

What I thought was really interesting about both stories is that Ginny is definitely the dominant one in both relationships. It really made me think about the possible dynamics of their relationship because Sirius is just so outgoing and dominant in canon. I totally see her in that role though, and now I'm wondering why. Because of her canon character, or maybe because the desperation Sirius feels most likely outweighs her own? Ahhhhh! I'm getting ramble-y. XD

Something Better was lovely, even though I was slightly iffy about Harry's behaviour. I liked how Ginny took complete control of the situation. ;) The dialogue between them was quite good here too. Sirius seemed to be fairly accurate. This one interested me because it dealt with Sirius' angst, but in a positive way. I'm not sure if I can see the pairing in such an upbeat light. Which is odd in a way, because I thought his character here was more in canon than in musesfool's story, but I think relationship-wise, the ( ... )

AHH! I LOVE your comments and entries, I swear. You always make me think about things I hadn't given thought to before. Thanks for your observations on the ship :)

What I thought was really interesting about both stories is that Ginny is definitely the dominant one in both relationships. You're right - see, I've always thought that they're a lot alike. Smart, sense of humor, has internal pain and has suffered personally because of Voldemort, and are quick to action. I still can't really figure why they both mesh so well ( ... )

Likewise! I've never had such good discussions about HP characters. =)

I still can't really figure why they both mesh so well.

Yeah, I'm definitely not sure about that either. It's odd, because I DO have somewhat clear ideas about the dynamics of their relationship.

Am trying so hard not to be sucked into this ship.

Hee! I know what you mean. I was looking over the Ginny/Sirius fic thread at FAP today, and there are a handful of links but I haven't read any of them yet.

As for Ginny/Tom, I can definitely see how Ginny would be easier to write than Tom. I think Tom might even be harder to write than Voldemort, because he's the step in-between and it's hard to pin down his emotions and beliefs and the motivations behind them. Even so, you'd probably do a good job of characterization - you seem to have an excellent grasp of the characters. *encourages* =D

The other Ginny/Tom I've read is actually not a darkfic at all. It's called the pieces of this ( ... )

(Dude, I love this comment of yours.)

I know this is super late, but - I just had to say that you're right. It's so hard to pin down Tom. It'd be easier if he had some redeemable quality, you know? So far, the only quality I've been able to keep at him is his obsession with Ginny.

Thanks for that excerpt - I really, really liked it. And I totally noticed that I then used that "leaning back" imagery in the Harry and Sirius fic - not sure whether I read it here and channeled it subconciously or what, but I love the word "lean."

One thing I find really interesting about T/G is the obsession factor - Ginny was clearly infatuated with him, and I can't see how she wouldn't have left a mark on Tom as well.

And last thing - what are manifestos? *sheepish* I'm guessing - fansites?

Yeah, I can definitely see that too. They way that they've affected each other is probably what draws me to the pairing most. =)

Ship manifestos are essays that are written with the purpose of... hmm... I'll just paste part of their userinfo here:
Shipper's Manifesto: a public declaration of fannish love for a particular pairing or ship.
[...]
This community's goal is to provide readers with a detailed listing of pairings, insight into the characters behind the pairings, and contextual understanding of what makes the pairing work. This community will also provide newcomers with a starting point for further exploration.

I checked for Ginny/Tom, and alas, there was nothing. ;)

ship_manifesto

But it's a great community - it covers every fandom out there.
