Midnight happenings!

The last time the dogs in the next street were barking in a rather 'strange way', it was two petty thieves trying to steal petrol from my neighbour's bike at 3:00 Am. A while ago, the dogs were barking again.

After looking around a bit closely, I realised that there was something/body just behind the lamp post around the corner. Since the solar lamp was powerful, it took me a while to get adjusted to the light and to actually see a bike and someone sleeping close to it. I was naturally surprised when I saw that, because not many people sleep with their bikes, let alone sleep with a bike on the foot-walk.

I hollered a bit, saw a motorist pair drive away after a glance, and finally went down to take a look. This chap was drunk and he fell off his bike. The clutch of the bike was broken, a little bit of petrol did spill from somewhere and one of his legs was under the tank of the bike. I parked the bike and called up cosmodoc who advised that I should check if he had any head injuries, and if he was conscious.

Things looked OK, but when he was up, he wasn't able to say a thing. I tried talking to him in various languages and finally got a mumbled response from which I realised that he lived in a named street close-by, but he wasn't able to tell me his address. Kick started the bike and slowly got him to be my pillion rider and drove him to the street he mentioned.

After getting there, I asked him if he can tell me where he lived so that I could drop him. It wasn't very useful, so I had to leave him sitting there with the bike parked close to him. When I took a few steps to walk back home, I got a "thank you" and then a "Do you know English?", I replied with a "yes", and then he said, "I am a gay" and sat down there. I must admit that, while I was walking back, I realised that I was a little uncomfortable hearing that for the first time from somebody (unlike when I've heard about somebody's sexual orientation in the movies or read in the books).

I wonder if I should've given the chap some juice/water or something before I drove him. The though did not come to my mind then.

oneday, life
