So I haven't updated in forever, hence I will do it in bullet points.
-Law School: One L Hell...really not as bad as everyone said. What sucks the most is moving from being a senior within your major--knowing what's going on and the background of the field--to the bottom rung. Yes, being a philosophy major puts me ahead of some others, however, I still know nothing about the law (relatively speaking). There' s a lot to learn. This is both exciting and daunting, but right now I'm excited. The work isn't hard--it's easy to understand--but you REALLY have to put the time into it. This is not something that I'm good at, before now I've spent minimal time and achieved maximum understanding. This is not the case in law school, I've discovered quickly (by not keeping up with my work) that you really must keep up with (and actually DO) all of the work. So I'm getting on top of that this weekend/this coming week. Also, scheduling my life is becoming easier...I'm actually procrastinating less (but less for me is still a LOT so I do have to work on that more). I have to get on top of the gym thing more, I've only been going once a week or so, which is not good. That membership was expensive, and I'm determined to get as much out of it as I can.
-Israel: I'm going to Israel for a wedding on October 2 and returning the 9th. This is great, because I get to be at my friend's wedding and see Israel (Tel-Aviv in particular), however I'm stressed about missing school, especially since I'm a little behind with my work. *scolds self* lol
-Music: THE JENNIFER NETTLES BAND IS AMAZING. Ok, so, this summer I went to see Kenny Chesney with my friend Hailey and Sugarland opened. This began the Sugarland obsession; they're a pop-country band that's really good. The lead singer (Jennifer Nettles) has a great voice and is gorgeous. So, in an effort of procrastination, I did some research on her a few weeks ago and discovered that she had two previous projects: Soul Miner's Daughter and the Jennifer Nettles Band. Soul Miner's Daughter is a folk/blues duo with rare country twang (because JN is from souther Georgia). When they broke up (her duo partner wasn't into it anymore) she started the Jennifer Nettles Band. JNB got some success in the indie realm; they went on Lilith Fair a few times and generally kicked ass. JNB is more folk/rock/blues. Basically, it's as if Tori Amos and the Indigo Girls had babies, the older one was Ani DiFranco, the middle child was Melissa Ferrick, and then, a few years later, Jennifer Nettles was born whom was influenced by all of them. So, it wavers from dark blues/rock stuff (a-la Tori's "Black Dove/January") to folk/countryish slower songs (a-la Indigo Girl's "Hammer and a Nail"). Basically, I'm in love. However, the issue is that in 2005 when Sugarland started to get popular, all of Jennifer Nettles' previous music became unavailable (I guess she was trying to keep potential fans from thinking she was deep and sensitive, LOL). So the only way I could find to get the CDs was on eBay for like $200...which is obviously out of my price range. So, in a last resort, I searched LJ for "Jennifer Nettles" and FOUND A COMMUNITY basically about her!!! I posted, and 15 minutes later (if even that long) I had everything she ever released, and more! So my obsession has been fueled and I'm listening to nothing else. LOL!!! I've also successfully converted a few people (w00t). So if YOU want the music, LET ME KNOW!!!! I want more converts to the church of Jennifer Nettles!
-Shitty crap that's been happening: So I'm gonna group this all into one sub-catagory, but another reason why I haven't been keeping up with my work is that there have been a number of crappy things putting me in bad moods and requireing a considerable amount of time/money. Here they are:
-My car's A/C has been fucked up. Seriously. Got it fixed, then had to get it fixed again, and just GRRRR. But now it works *crosses fingers* so yay. El carro is in tip-top shape :) However, because it took so long to get it together (I had to get the car fixed in NJ, didn't know when it would be ready, etc.) I had to postpone my trip to Smith (Northampton, MA) which sucks because I don't know when I'll be able to go next. Maybe next weekend...but it depends on work. Grarrrrr.
-My turtle (Tim, who actually turned out to be a girl...Timothea?) required surgery. Get this, his rectum was falling out of his ass. Poor turtle! So he got his surgery, and I was *really* scared about it, but he seems fine now! YAY!
-My computer wouldn't turn on. My head did this explodey thing when this happened. I'm in law school, computers are even more than essential!!! (Beth gets this, I'm sure.) HOWEVER, because I am teh awesome, and because macs RULE, I fixed my computer in two hours the night that it happened. So we're all good now, but my hard drive may have been damaged so I have to back-up like every 10 mins. LOL
-I got a new iPod. I shouldn't have done this. I mean, I had a gift certificate and I'm selling my old iPod to the kid I babysit for (or else on eBay), so in the end it'll only have cost me about $100...but still. I think it was a way to make myself feel better about all this crap, and let me just say, in the end it was TOTALLY worth it. Now I have 160GB of goodness (because I never know what I'll want to listen to). I can put all of my music, photos, and videos on it. This is KICKASS. Seroiusly. Especially for my breaks at the library. AND I can put read-only documents on it so that I can review my cases for class on the way to school (on the subway). This makes me feel justified. Kind of. LOL. Whatever, there's no way I'm returning it so the minor guilt is worth it...hehehehehe *evil laugh*
-I went to a LGBT event hosted by a firm that an old friend works for (actually my old crew coach who's gay, YAY! I love him!) Anyway, I shmoozed *cough* NETWORKED with the gay partners of this huge firm, gay staff (associates, senior associates, etc.), and other gay law students from the NYC area. This was freakin' SWEET. I love shmoozing...er...networking, lol, and it was great seeing my old friend. Also, my friend's best friend (whom also works at the firm) is a lesbian who lives like 3 blocks from me in Park Slope, which is amazing cause she's great. We're going out for drinks sometime this week :) Also, like 10 other people there (out of like 50) live in Park Slope. We're just awesome. That's how we roll. ;)
SO, generally, I'm doing well but am stressed out. But being productive today has helped :D
Also, thanks to Beth for listening to my rant about levity. It makes no sense, SERIOUSLY. But whatever. At least the Model Penal Code gets it.
