Freedom!

Yesterday I bought myself a new state-of-the-art bicycle, as a spur-of-the-moment, late Birthday present. The technology has moved on unbelievably in the 20 odd years since I last owned a bike. I've been test-riding my new wheels in the big wide streets of Auckland and am absolutely delighted with it! The sense of freedom is exhilarating ( Read more... )

This past summer I began to cycle again as well :) I haven't ridden my bike in nine or ten years. I wasn't even sure I'd know how to ride again lol despite that common saying: never forgetting and such. But I had the most wonderful time. I rode so far ... my legs hurt very badly, but the pain (and pleasure of rebuilding those muscles) was worthwhile. The beauty of traveling by bike through nature is an exhilarating one indeed. In New Zealand it must be stunning, out in the country-side at least. I hope your new bike serves you well :)

Thank you!

Today I rode to work in 5 minutes instead of 20-25 minute walking, so it is already serving me well.

I found it really interesting, given our recent discussions of INFJ-memory, just how rapidly my cycling skills flooded back into my mind and body. In my case, it is over TWENTY years since I last owned a cycle. Weird!

I think I enjoy and feel comfortable cycling as it engages my Extraverted Sensing in a way which driving a car never could. As a cyclist, one relies totally on sight, hearing and kinesthetics (touch) to navigate safely. When I actually become proficient at an Se-related skill (not an easy thing for INFJs), it as as if I get a disproportionate amount of pleasure when using that skill. Cycling and swimming are the two main sporty-type things I enjoy the most.

Ooh, thats a good point about it being so Se related!

And thats great that you are already getting so much enjoyment and 'pay-off' from it!

And I totally relate to the little knowingness that that was the right bike for you. I experience this all the time. Items often 'select me' instead of vice-versa

Thanks for your kind words.

I don't have many items I truly treasure, but those I do "selected" me in a similar fashion.
