Fandom launch continues

Today I strolled through Word on the Street: groped lots of books and magazines; jostled people to get a glimpse of the likes of Vincent Lam, Craig Kielburger and David Suzuki (he spoke at my convocation!); bumped into J-Skool people (four months since the apocalypse and already awkward... was it like this after high school? I think it was lol); listened to Richard Scrimger give a very funny talk about writing for young audiences. I'm still chuckling over how he's so right about Little Women. Alcott seriously ruined a perfectly good ship. WTF was up with that German professor?! That part ALWAYS annoyed me.

So... how did your premiere week go? Here are my notes:

Heroes - S2! Strong start despite the lack of Sylar, and liking the introduction of new faces despite the overpopulation. I'm prepared to crush on Kensei (too bad ZQ and David Anders probably won't have any scenes together), and Maya's storyline looks intriguing. Also good: Claire being awesome (not sure how I feel about the love interest though), HRG and Mohinder teaming up to bring the Company down, Molly's two daddies. But did they have to take out Mr. Nakamura so casually? Or did they? Dun dun dun.

Journeyman - A bit slow, but the pilot raises a lot of interesting questions. Why is Dan jumping back in time? Is he just supposed to help random people, or is there a bigger design? What happened to Livia and will the same thing happen to Dan? I highly doubt the show will be on air long enough to give us answers though... hate it when that happens.

House - S4 already? Things are shaken up a bit by taking away House's team, but no ducklings just mean happy House/Wilson/Cuddy OT3 shippers. I wonder how/why Foreman, Cameron and Chase will come back... Anyway, neat case (based on a true story!), and "Dr. Buffer" and the guitar-napping subplot were comedy gold. Bring on the Survivor-style hiring process!

Reaper - Apparently they filmed this at Canadian Tire. Hahaha. The tone was kind of weird - like the writers knew it was too light and silly, so they tried to balance it with that scene between Sam and his mother - but I think there's potential beyond monster-of-the-week episodes. FX are pretty good, the Devil was both genial and creepy, and Sam grew on me (aw, college made him sleepy). I give the pilot a solid B.

Dirty Sexy Money - This show is candy. I kinda loved it in a really guilty, enjoyable, junk food way. Donald Sutherland and Peter Krause are fantastic in their scenes together, and the whole Darling brood is just ridiculously over the top. The twins are fun, but I think my favourite sibling is Brian, the angry reverend with the emotional maturity of a 12-year-old. "I hate you!" Hee.

Life - Charlie Crews: not as sweet as Monk, not as acerbic as House. Didn't connect with any of the supporting cast either, so I'm really meh on the pilot. Will maybe give the show one more try, but won't go out of my way to do it. Sorry, that's life!

Grey's Anatomy - Cristina and Alex FTW. Seriously, they were the best part of the whole episode. I really didn't care about Meredith and her "breakup" with McDreamy, or Bailey and Callie's power struggle, or the embarrassing mistake that is Gizzie. Though Lexie wasn't as annoying as I thought she would be, so that's a plus. Now that the cast has been whittled down a bit, let's not go upgrading any of the new interns... they're unattractive.

Moonlight - That was lame. But as somebody on TWoP said, even Ghost Whisperer lasted three seasons (I don't know if that series premiere had a cheesy voiceover and an Evanescence song, though). SO LAME. And during the entire hour I kept thinking: Mick is less good-looking than Angel, Beth reminds me of Kate, the vamp faces are basically vamp contact lenses, that sketchy prof played Dracula on BtVS, etc. But to quote the TWoP boards again, "Logan Echolls, the Immortal Edition" is reason enough to keep watching. Josef has Spike's amoral snark going on (and Happy Meals with legs walking around his house!), but Jason Dohring needs to work on the character more - he's not supposed to be Logan Echolls, the Immortal Edition! ...Oh, I miss Angel.

I think I'm going to try to do NaNoWriMo a month early. As some of you may recall, I last attempted this crazy shit two years ago and it was essentially a mess. A wild, absurd mess like you'd have if you got buckets of paint and tossed them at the walls and then jumped and spun around dancing and yelling and giggling. Should be a spectacle.

Btw, Australia fell through, as I kinda knew it would, because my mother is in some respects more indecisive than I am, and also because her nutjob sister went and scheduled a colonoscopy, and something about the times and the flights and the airfare... To be honest, nobody really wanted to fly around the world to go to a place that's almost exactly like Canada (lol Jez). So now I guess I have to get back to planning the next episode of The Ondrayuh Show... but maybe a vacation isn't such a bad idea. I'm always up for some procrastination. Fall getaway! Road trip!

ETA - totally forgot (and this shows how important it is to me) to mention that I am a "good driver with poor observational skills." Oh, what a sweet old man.

And... I've taken to ending my posts with ZQ, because there's a happily-ever-after if I ever saw one. Wink.
