The author is tired of contradictory advice about covering letters, of being told to be terminally boring while trying to interest the reader in their work, and to present a grey blank in place of the author while convincing that the book itself will be colourful and saleable, so in lieu of professionalism the author is opting for honesty: I have not been published since 1999. This may be related to any number of factors but 'not having tried since 2002' is quite high among them. Therefore I am not a household name or an automatic best-seller. I am not a celebrity, and while I do write a blog it is not a well-known and widely-read blog, and certainly not a popular blog copied out into manuscript form. The book I would like you (or, frankly, anyone) to publish is a good book. It is written well, the characters are likeable, and the story is uncomplicated without being idiotic. With the right marketing it could be if not 'a runaway hit', at least a book which makes back a respectable return. I would pitch it at fantasy fans, but with an opening to less genre-bound readers. The author of this work is under no illusion as to the likelihood of getting rich from this novel; she would just like you to read it.
