Slade hadn't expected this when the door slid open.

Instead of being in his control center, he found himself in a vast, sandy wasteland with no sign of his hidden bunker. His single eye scanned the horizon, looking for any clue as to where he might be. Was this some kind of an illusion created by a psychic? He has many enemies, and he wouldn't put it passed them to try something like this. But he built his helmet to block out psychic frequencies. He doubted that any of his more tenacious foes were capable of such a powerful psychic attack.

He bent down and clutched a handful of sand, letting the small particles sift through his fingers. His eye picked out small fragments of shiny, broken metal and glass. There was likely some manner of civilization (or what was left of a civilization) nearby for there to be pieces of processed materials hidden beneath the sand.

But that still didn't answer the question of how he ended up in this desert in the first place. Long-range teleporter, maybe? It would have to be an exceptionally powerful one and whoever used must have been aware of his hideout, but there was still that possibility. An unlikely one, but it was all he had to go on at this point.

In any case, someone, or something, brought him here, and he wasn't getting any closer to discovering who it was by sitting around and glaring at the ground. He began to walk toward a small dune. He intended to find whoever was responsible for this and show his displeasure in a manner they would never forget.
