You know, Zuko's been around. He's just been rather antisocial. Putting his family together, figuring out what eh's done to himself recently in the physical sense, and generally trying to put their recently storm-tossed life back on track. So here he is, in 202 for the first time in forever, inspecting the Stew that's been left frozen ( Read more... )

Apparently the public can come bother him?

Well, it's good enough. Krauser moves into the room. He examines the post, assuming it's been translated; in that case, he would decide volunteering for the welcoming committee is a little counterproductive.

After all, Leon's not going to get the greeting everyone else has.

But hey, plans of revenge from his bloodsoaked backstory don't need to be mulled over extensively here, so we'll pass over that and get to:

"I think we should talk."

There's nobody else in the kitchen or immediately outside, so.

"Do you think you can report, like you're supposed to?" Zuko replies, though he's pleasant enough about it. "What did you need, Krauser?"

Decan, if you lead him wrong, Zuko will beat you to death with your unactivated sabre handles. Really.

"Uh--what?" Krauser is completely derailed from finding a diplomatic way to say that people Anakin are unhappy with tend to get a shortcut to hypoxia.

"I didn't know Wesker was dead until days after it happened. This is because Decan was hospitalized, leaving you to let me know about the fracas." Zuko's eyes are cold.

His eyes are never cold.

"Why did I have to wait for Decan, Krauser? Why didn't you tell me?"

"I have two volunteers for advocates, I'm drawing up a jury, but I have no idea who to suggest for a judge.

"Oh, and the female vampire? I don't like her. But I don't like any of the damn things."

Beat, during which Angua comes into the kitchen properly, apparently to pick up some food for 101.

"How're you?"

If he's in anything like her bad mood, this won't be a fun conversation.

"Swell, good for you, no help for you." A beat.

Zuko is quiet as he heats his soup.

"I really want no part of this, Angua. Please don't speak to me of it until you have it squared away, or need something from me in specific. I don't want updates. I want her dead. Both of them."

That was the answer she needed, right?

You know how a room in which Angua's in a bad mood becomes a significantly less pleasant place to be? It's not exactly her fault, it's just the way her stance shifts, and there's the impression of raised heckles, even as she's busy doing something as innocuous as collecting foodstuffs and gathering them in a small box to take downstairs.

"Fine, then."

She unbderstands, of course. That doesn't mean she approves.

She can disapprove all she wants. He's defending his family from a known threat. Zuko has simliar problems; the heat spikes and no one is comfortable around an angry firebender...

"I'm sorry-- you can have your laws and your procedure, but if you let her go... on some-- technical mistake, on some-- shred of questioning..."

He shakes his head. HE doesn't have to say: I will kill her if she comes near my family.

He'll kill her even if she doesn't.

Ichigo has had no luck tracking Zuko down the past few days, partly because he might secretly not want to find Zuko. But his basic instinct, above all else, is to protect people, even if that means protecting them from himself. So he makes his way over, averting his gaze from the other boy, his head down.

"I've got some stuff you need to know. I figure it's best I tell you myself so you don't find out the wrong way."

Zuko looks up, blinking his eyes. Oh, rapture. More bad news. "You're going to tell me something that makes life difficult. Alright." Zuko gestured. One in a long line of -- difficult people. Sigh.

"More like a warning." He's happy to tell himself that the danger, in his mind, is over. "I went with a small group to the mall a couple of days ago. Just to get some stuff, nothing big. While we were there I wandered off from the group, and a vampire...sort of attacked me."

He'll take this nice and slow.

And there's Zuko, sitting there with his bowl of stew.

"Go on."

He's listening.

Cause he'll do it anyways.

"...okay. You and Faye, that's a start," Zuko says, not looking up from his stew.

He is very tired. The last week has been long.

There is a wince at Fayes name, but he covers it...not so well.

"You all right Zuko?"

"... you have a problem with Faye?" Zuko asked, ignoring Chase's question.

Lo, what's this? Meng coming to see Zuko?

Well, she was actually just coming in to 202 to see if there were enough supplies for bean curd puffs for the next Music Night. And she just happens to spy Zuko and the note about the welcoming committee in the process.

"I can do that," Meng says as she approaches Zuko. "The welcoming committee thing, I mean. I can help with that."

Lo, indeed! Zuko blinks and then smiles a little at Meng. "You want to? It means meeting a lot of weird people, who are sometimes really angry or mean."

Kind of like Zuko used to be.

Meng takes a deep breath, but manages to keep her composure. "Yes, I do," she confirms. "It was part of my old job at Aunt Wu's, so I'm already experienced." She's also planning on taking steps to learn how to defend herself. "Besides, all I do around here is sometimes make refershments for Music Night. I want to contribute more."

Zuko thinks it over; he's got obvious concerns about someone so young on the welcoming committee. "You're going to deal with a lot of older people who don't take you -- or, hell, me-- serious. You gonna be able to handle that?"
