You know, Zuko's been around. He's just been rather antisocial. Putting his family together, figuring out what eh's done to himself recently in the physical sense, and generally trying to put their recently storm-tossed life back on track. So here he is, in 202 for the first time in forever, inspecting the Stew that's been left frozen ( Read more... )

"I have two volunteers for advocates, I'm drawing up a jury, but I have no idea who to suggest for a judge.

"Oh, and the female vampire? I don't like her. But I don't like any of the damn things."

Beat, during which Angua comes into the kitchen properly, apparently to pick up some food for 101.

"How're you?"

If he's in anything like her bad mood, this won't be a fun conversation.

"Swell, good for you, no help for you." A beat.

Zuko is quiet as he heats his soup.

"I really want no part of this, Angua. Please don't speak to me of it until you have it squared away, or need something from me in specific. I don't want updates. I want her dead. Both of them."

That was the answer she needed, right?

You know how a room in which Angua's in a bad mood becomes a significantly less pleasant place to be? It's not exactly her fault, it's just the way her stance shifts, and there's the impression of raised heckles, even as she's busy doing something as innocuous as collecting foodstuffs and gathering them in a small box to take downstairs.

"Fine, then."

She unbderstands, of course. That doesn't mean she approves.

She can disapprove all she wants. He's defending his family from a known threat. Zuko has simliar problems; the heat spikes and no one is comfortable around an angry firebender...

"I'm sorry-- you can have your laws and your procedure, but if you let her go... on some-- technical mistake, on some-- shred of questioning..."

He shakes his head. HE doesn't have to say: I will kill her if she comes near my family.

He'll kill her even if she doesn't.

"My laws?" Angua glances over her shoudler now. "You don't want to know how the laws at home would consider this. It's everyone else's laws I'm trying to take into consideration here. The only thing I've brought into this from home is the fact that no one's above those laws."

Which means that yes, she'll arrest you if she has to.

Zuko snorts.

"Tell that to Azula," he say bitterly. "She broke out the other day. Apparently thinks herself above waiting for the judgment of others, no?" He curls his lips and then pokes at his stew.

"Hellboy said.

"I know what she thinks - as much as I want to know how she thinks, anyway."

She pauses, and looks down at what she's doing for a second. "Why did you have her arrested, anyway? Why not execute her immediately?"

"And undermine my own authority?" Zuko snorts, before, a moment later, "... that's something father would have done. But-- he would have done it before an audience, with no remorse. A display of power."

He stabs at his stew viciously, before he leaves it alone, finding it no longer to his taste.

"I'm not like that."

"Right," she says with the tone of one who expected an answer like that. "That's why it has to continue to be done right."

She's finished gathering her food now, and rests in on the counter. "My father would do something similar, although he woudln't be looking to kill. That's my brother's preference."

"It'll be Azula's preferance if you humilate her with this, too. Bet she's making a list now. Me, Hellboy, Edward... I'm certain a few other people beside Mel and the Girls..."

Staring at his stew, he has no immediate answers for her about her father or brother. He just looks-- tired, really.

That's OK. She doesn't want to talk about her family anyway. "I'd like to see her try Hellboy," she says. And if you're looking for the proud girlfriend... it's there, but buried under a more matter-of-fact tone. "I don't expect she'll get the chance though."
