It's only suicide if you don't expect to come back alive. Sokka expects to come back alive.
With a few specific passengers in tow.
Standing just behind Wash, watching as they near the farm, Sokka's jaw is set. He should be standing in his leathers, with his spear and his boomerang, his face skull-like with war paint...
But he's a boy there, in jeans and a t-shirt, hair pulled back and neck bare without his necklace, scars pale white against his dark skin - the initials and bite both. A knife is settled in the belt loop of his jeans, the boomerang strapped to his back, new linens wrapped at his hands and up to his elbows.
His hands find his hips and his eyes narrow as the farm comes into view.

Of course she ain't a rookie.
Simon has expressed some concern about Kaylee heading back to the scene of her imprionment, but she'd shrugged it off happily. It's not like she needs to see any of the monsters.
Plus, she has a ship. Sure, Luck's not exactly Serenity, but she's sturdy, built with love and piloted just the same. Kaylee was there from her conception through to her launch, and she knows her just as well as she knew Serenity.

Illyria's there, silent, utterly calm about the fact that she's soon to be dropped into the middle of a bunch of Magog. There's none of her characteristic restlessness, because the time has finally come and she's nothing if not ready.

For all Wash knew, the others weren't even there. He had tunnel vision, it was himself and ship operating as one as the hive loomed closer, "Okay, you guys ready?"
Or...humanish, in some cases?
Either they were going to get some innocent people to safety, or they were about to die.
They were going right into the belly of the Beast, after all.

She's her new baby.

He stood near Kaylee, arms crossed. His skin was beginning to be tinged grey.
