Wouldn't it be so cool if they couldn't get anyone to do it?

As we all know, 50 Shades is my second most nurtured pet hate (Scientology's first, obviously), so I can't help but react with glee when it gets dissed. Emma Watson gave viciously British side-eye to the very idea that she would be in such a film.

1. the GIFs make this post

2. I only know this book through your mockery, but I'm thinking the casting of the girl is much more critical to me than the guy. The guy just has to be good looking and ridiculous, most any hotty will do. And there is no problem if he is laughing at the role camping it up. But the girl is tough. The girl has to absolutely radiate crazy so it's totally clear to the audience that she is nuts, but also be believably innocent and earnest. The audience has to buy that this schlock is her fantasy world. She can't play it camp. Oh for a young Kate Winslet.

3. I now want to totally cast this with Korean actors because, well, isn't this rich dom - sub romance basically a big subset of all KDrama? Just think of the fabulous fashion opportunities this opens up. They should set it in England, maintain it is Seattle or Florida or whatever, and just not bring up the actor's country of origin.

So my vote for fantasy KDrama casting:
Anastasia (that's the main girl right): Lee Chung-Ah
Based on my love for her as Yang Eun-Bi in Flower Boy Ramen Shop
Just look at her radiate the crazy here:

the guy here, Jung Il-Woo would be fine, but we are talking fantasy casting so

Christian Grey:
Hyun Bin who I loved as Kim Joo Won in Secret Garden
Guy knows how to make a narcissistic sociopath just adorable enough to make you like him while you loath him:

I have no idea if either of these speaks passible english, but I don't think that is really a prerequisite given the material.

BWAH-HAH-HAH!!!!!

Honestly, I would LOVE if the movie decided that this wasn't a romance and was really depicting a narcissistic billionaire taking advantage of an innocent, nubile mental patient.

I do think the casting of the girl might not matter, though. I mean, KStew was a cipher and Twilight still raked it in. With self-insert fantasy stories, it's best to cast a woman as bland as possible so the audience can easily self-insert.

(see The Oatmeal's astute analysis here: http://theoatmeal.com/story/twilight)

But Christian Grey is going to have to be very appealing to get away with the abusive shit and still have females (and select males) sighing over him. Obviously, I'd like Christian Bale to get it and play him as Patrick Bateman...

but I doubt that will happen. No. They'll play it all romantic and cast pretty people to make this seem appealing.
