Concerts galore.

2009 started off slow for live music for me. Aside from Sundance, I've been to just one concert this year, and that was during Sundance from a Sundance artist. The final eight months or so more than make up for this as a lot of great musicians are coming to town this spring and summer. I can't begin to figure out who I'm most excited for. I guess the good news is I don't have to, right?

I'm quite happy for:

Margot & The Nuclear So & So's (May 11th, Kilby)
Mirah (April 14th, Kilby)
Thao & The Get Down Stay Down (Thao Nguyen's project. Great female songwriter who tours with Hotel Cafe) (May 5th, Kilby)

I'm bouncing out of my chair, climbing the walls and wetting my pants over:

March 28th (Saturday) Rachael Yamagata at Avalon. (Quite possibly my favorite solo act)
April 26th (Sunday) Whispertown 2000 and Maria Taylor (Kilby) (Maria's album was my number one for 2007, and Whispertown were number two of 2006, Whispertown 2K are the band I'm most excited for. Sure, Morgan's voice takes some getting used to, but I've always loved it.
May 3rd (Sunday) Jenny Owen Youngs (Kilby) Really, I can't tell you how much I enjoy this album. Another 2007 top ten.

Lets just hope I don't die of excitement prior to:

July 9th Bon Iver, Jenny Lewis (Twilight Concert Series, Gallivan Center) Yes, she once told me she was, "rebelling against the digital age" while telling me she remembered me from a show three plus years earlier and sure her recent album isn't up to par, but it's Jenny *and* Bon Iver on the same night. Ten bucks tells me she'll be all, "I remember you from the 2003 show and 2006 show, Mr. Longtime Fan! But I'm still rebelling from your digital Canon Rebel. Bye!"

June 8th A CAMP!!!! (Nina Persson from the Cardigans) at Kilby. I wrote about them in an entry on here a few months ago, and figured I'd never see them live. Seriously, I figured I'd have to move to Stockholm or something. They tend to hit the U.S. hotspots before retreating to Sweden. I'm probably most excited about this one simply because of the rarity of it. And come on, Nina Persson? At my favorite venue? Playing some of my favorite songs of hers?

Say what you want about Will and Lance, but they're bringing the sexy back to Kilby.

5:27 edit: Of course, there's the Brandi Carlile concert, which falls somewhere between the pants wetting and die of excitement category, but at $35, I'd pretty much knocked it off of the radar due to pricing. I can go to any three concerts listed above for the price of her show. That number jumps to four if I include the free Bon Iver/Jenny Lewis show.
