Session 2: What A Live Journal Does To The Mind

Mar 31, 2005 11:10

An LJ, as documented earlier, is made as a way for one to share his or her personal feelings with the world, what they think is wrong with their life, and take everything some kid says to heart.

What an LJ does to the mind is a wholly different story. A LiveJournal gives a person a false sense of security in the fact that they told someone about their problems, though very often those problems are heard by an outsider, who has never met the person posting, and therefor cannot be counted as no one important has heard of this problem, or at least no one it would matter to. This false sense of security is like storing your personal belongings in a pay-for-use lockers at a skating arena thing, or a train station. You think your belongings are safe, but these can be broken into with the use of some simple tools, and an LJ can be treated as such. These LJs acting as a public retreat, one's "happy place" to share their lives, even though this LJ will never really make a difference, and as has been documented, is merely a temporary fix.
