You know, oboe is probably even more fussy than piccolo and it plays a lot more frequently. I vote for something that talks all the time! But she would have a hard time picking between that and French horn, which is probably the most difficult brass instrument to play.
I miss Italian food too. I was out with a friend one night recently and she picked Italian; I had the cheese and prosciutto appetizer because every other thing on the menu had garlic--EVERYTHING. I would have loved to order probably 75% of the stuff on that menu. :(
I know the flute/piccolo aren't necessarily as difficult as some other instruments, but I was thinking of the personality types of the people who tend to play those. Because the French horn is much rarer, I'm not as sure about what sort of personality it typically attracts.
(I was reading last night about how oboes and bassoons are rarely used in marching bands because of how the double reeds are too exposed to the elements.)
Thankfully, I'm allowed to have garlic, at least for the moment. :P I remember a time when my mom was avoiding both onions and garlic and it was incredibly difficult to cook for her (and infinitely blander) when she visited.
I'm afraid I'd have to pass on the cake, alas, although it does look delicious :P
Could it have been one of the dogs leaving the blood? Perhaps one of them had a small nosebleed and nobody realised. Seems odd that the source isn't known!
I think you could have been incredibly successful with your quilts, because they're awesome. You still could be! Is it something you could/would be interested in doing on the side?
It's really funny you mention Hermione playing the violin. When I was writing LIAB/LIAC (oh, the memories!) I wrote these little profiles for all of them as adults, and I had Hermione having played the violin as a child. Great minds ;)
The dogs aren't allowed up on the bed. Jade will sometimes bounce up there during the day if given the chance (she's crated in our room at night), but we'd NOTICE that. And since a) she wouldn't likely hold still that long to leave that sort of bloodstain and b) we would be in the room and looking at her while she was illicitly up on the bed, you'd think we'd notice any bleeding, too. And certainly if there was any dried blood on their fur or face.
I'm currently three quilts behind - both kids want one and I have a plan to make one for my friend who's getting married next summer. The top of MiniPlu's is finished - and has been since, like, April - but ever since we got Jade, it's been almost impossible to find uninterrupted time to work on it, and there's even less chance during the summer when kids are around all day and wanting to do things and go places. But hopefully I can figure it out later this fall.
