OMG, ARE YOU $*()*@! KIDDING ME?

I like to go to the theater, especially for comedy and musicals. I don't often treat myself to tickets, but I do like to support local high school/college productions if the prices are reasonable, and take the kids. (Will isn't as much into theater, so mostly he stays home.)

This winter/spring, I treated myself/us to three productions. In an attempt to get decent seats, I bought my tickets months ago, especially as I vastly prefer to take my kids to afternoon matinees, and those are much harder to get tickets for, as there are fewer of them.

Diary of Anne Frank: Because MiniPlu is so interested in Anne Frank's life and this particular era, I bought two tickets to see this at a local college. (Two declared himself not interested.) I chose the Sunday, March 2 matinee. Guess which weekend MiniPlu's school production of The Little Mermaid, Jr is? So, we can't go to that.

The Music Man: Same college. Bought three tickets to see the Saturday, May 3 matinee. First Communion is that morning, but I figured I'd be done with that in time to get to the show. But guess which weekend is the middle-school band trip to Pittsburgh? So - Two and I can go, I guess, but not MiniPlu.

Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood: These are two improv actors from the American Whose Line is it Anyway? They're swinging through our area for one night at a professional theater about 25 mins from here. These tickets cost quite a bit extra, but I figured it would make a nice night for Will and me - the first late-evening outing we will have ever taken since we had kids. (I hate making babysitters stay up late.) Problem #1: We have not been able to get a babysitter. Problem #2 I only just realized: The middle-school All-City Band Concert has just been rescheduled from Wed night to Fri night, presumably due to anticipated weather issues. MiniPlu is dependent on us to get to the concert (and home again). Two needs someone to sit with him AT the concert. I have already paid for tickets to that concert. We would be scummy parents if we ditched our child's concert in order to go to another performance. WE CANNOT GO SEE THE IMPROV SHOW.

Three sets of tickets, all non-refundable, non-exchangeable, all things I was super-excited to see. Almost all of which will be going to waste. *cries*

I also just bought three tickets to a local high school whose productions we enjoy, specifically because the lead male actor has had said lead three years running and he's finally a senior, so we want to see him one last time before he goes. They're doing Crazy For You which I know nothing about; basically, the three of us just want to see this kid. As of this post, we can still go to the matinee on Sunday April 6, but given the way the rest of our tickets have gone, I'm afraid to hope....

rant, wtf
