First off, if you have a DW account, could you let me know who you are over there, if you're not already
in my circle?
Happy 2012 and Happy Birthday to
dapperderp. I hope your year is off to a good start!
You know how they say that the way you spend the first day of the year indicates how the rest of the year will go? For me, that means doing almost everything myself while others kick back. Oh, wait - that's been my life for awhile now. :-P
I got up when the dog prodded me at 7:30am, fed kids and self, made grocery list, walked dog, walked to Staples and grocery, put most things away myself (prodded husband into doing a few items), ran 8 miles, did a load of laundry (prodded husband into bringing it back upstairs when it was dry), read to kids, made minestrone for dinner (kids voluntarily helped chop some of the veggies), made "pupcakes" from a dog-friendly mix MiniPlu got for Christmas, played with girls, got them to fold and put away their laundry, asked husband to collapse/fold up the pile of shipping boxes in our laundry room to get them out of the way (yes, he did the work, but I had to ASK), did dishes ... you get the idea. *sigh* We had one last day of freakishly mild weather, which meant I ran outside, but it was pretty windy.
On the other hand, Will was on the phone a bit with his twin and then their older sister, who just went back to Maine today (and thus why he wasn't running around at those times); he's worried about his twin's current state of stress and depression. :( And MiniPlu practically sprinted to help take care of Cassie when asked, because she's trying to prove she can be responsible enough to be the new dog's primary "mom". And the girls and I did have a lot of fun playing MiniPlu's
new game. I love hearing them talk about how much fun an educational game is. :D Still - there was a lot of lazing and playing around by everybody-but-me today.
Our day did get off to a rather surreal start, however. Around 9am I thought I'd get the morning newspaper and see just how freakishly mild the weather was at that point, so I opened the front door and saw ...
this: It was from the discount department store in the shopping plaza across the street. WTF? Was someone really just that drunk and confused, did they put it there as a prank, or did someone see the cart rolling aimlessly down the street at 3am and decide to get it out of the way ... onto our porch? Because there's a good half-dozen concrete steps up to our front porch, so the perpetrator had to go to some effort to get it there. It disturbs me a little that they managed to do so without waking us. (Our bedroom window faces the front of the house, although our bed is along the opposite wall.)
One more year-end meme, a shorter one this time, from
piperki:
Can you sum up your personal 2011 in just one word?
Busy
Best thing you ate in 2011?
How to choose? Ice cream sundae from local creamery? Bakery-fresh bread in Germany? My own chocolate cake? Banana cake? Veggies right out of our garden? Hmmmm.
What do you feel you wasted time on last year?
The internet. :-P
One regret from the past year?
Wasting too much time on the internet.
What do you wish you'd spent more time doing in 2011?
Cross-training. Kind of fell by the wayside over the summer when it was hard to fit in two workouts on Thursday, with kids underfoot, and I haven't done a good job of putting it back in. Also, remembering to enjoy the miracle of our kids, even when they drive me nuts.
What's one thing from 2011 you hope not to relive ever again?
Stomach flu.
What one accomplishment from 2011 are you proud of?
Teaching (as a sub, and for religious-ed)
What one dream do you hope to realize in 2012?
Beating last year's half-marathon time, even if it's just by a few seconds.
What one extravagance do you want to experience in 2012?
Maybe get a smartphone, or start taking TKD?
All right - I guess I should start making an effort to go to bed before *mumblemumble*, given that reality starts again on Tues. *hugs everyone*
