If you read my recent post you know I was pretty worried about the rumored "new coat". My understanding now is that it's still an RAF greatcoat, it's just being made with a lighter material. Someone named Dana posted a blog on the Barrowman Day website about visiting the TW set in LA and getting to meet John: She wrote he was indeed wearing the coat! John's manager apparently tweeted that it was still gonna be an RAF coat.
I'm not happy about the rift possibly being gone: I think RTD is getting a bit lazy. He SO does not want to do monster-of-the-week any more! I'm thinking this people-not-dying thing MUST lead back to something alien: Why put this under the title of Torchwood? I'm still looking forward to seeing it, for love of the show as well as for John.
Oh, good! I'd just heard it was a new coat, but that makes sense, in a way; that other coat couldn't have been easy to run around all day in!
And while I can understand that RTD might be getting tired of the 'new monster every episode' thing, an awful lot of shows have had super long runs by doing that exact thing, and I know one of the ideas of at least the first season of Torchwood was that they purposefully planned to not connect the episodes very much so that viewers could tune in any week and still figure out what was going on. Now it just seems like he's going for the epic storylines and that's making it lose some of the charm it had originally, at least in my eyes. And yeah, there's gotta be aliens, otherwise it wouldn't be Torchwood at all!

Much as I like the epic stories I can't see why they couldn't go back to a one-a-week format. It's still possible to have continuing story arcs within that.

Much as I like the epic stories I can't see why they couldn't go back to a one-a-week format. It's still possible to have continuing story arcs within that.

And yeah, as long as they have a decent storyline I don't mind the season-long things, but I did like the self-contained episodes as well!
