Hello, New York Glee! Stick around a while ;)
So, I went into the episode not sure what to expect, and came out of it loving New York Glee. A lot. They've managed to combine the comedy and drama, they gave equal time to all of the major characters, the songs were a mix of old and new, and all of the characters felt really three-dimensional and fleshed out. (it's a rare night for me because I have two main fandoms and the new material for both comes out Tuesday nights and this time Glee left me feeling happy and One Piece left me with a combination of 'NO' 'WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT SHIT' and a healthy dose of '????????????' in a good way, mind, but still so this was a change of pace!)
Also Klaine. But we'll get to that :)
"We've randomly time-jumped to November or s/t hope you caught that from like the one line we bothered to insert also Santana's been on that lesbian island a long time lol'
That doesn't look safe.
Look at Blainers picking up coffee for his man and placing a hand on his back to guide him look at these idiots acting like a couple. That was the one thing I appreciated most about this episode; that there was no question that Klaine is a couple and for once they actually touched each other more intimately than anybody else. And I don't know if that's because Fox has loosened its regulations, or because Glee doesn't care anymore about people that handle teh gay, or because they know it's what the fans want, but it's lovely after so long of them looking like platonic buddies instead of, you know, an engaged couple. Also Kurt was super horny all episode and it was amusing.
Hello, New York.
Why is she hugging Kurt tho like they would have seen each other that morning.
"We're gonna go ahead and order things u guys show up when u can k bye" what nice friends.
THEY. ARE. SHARING. A. BED. AND. SLEEPING. ON. EACH. OTHER. HALLELUJAH.
Blaine why are gesturing with the pancake it's gonna end up on the floor right away.
Also lol I guess Blaine sleeps with full hairgel yeah right let's go with that.
LOOK AT THEM.
They're so in-sync and then using the toothbrush as a microphone cuties.
Kurt gets really violent in this pillow fight though like calm down buddy.
HIS FACE WITH BLAINE'S FASHION CHOICES KURT I AGREE WITH YOU THERE.
So cute.
AND THEN KURT'S READY TO HAVE SEX ON THE COUCH AND SAM INTERRUPTS AND HE LOOKS MURDEROUS. Also I'm laughing at the fact that Kurt's not even going to move anymore when people come into the room he'd rather just lie on top of Blaine and snark from there.
My dad: "why doesn't he, like, lock his backpack to his chair or something?" because father the point of this episode is that Artie doesn't know that's necessary.
Alas, his mortal enemy. The staircase.
Okay, Roller Coaster Tycoon is awesome, but Sam's wiggling that controller around and jamming buttons and that...is not how you play that game. It's about building amusement parks, not killing off waves of enemies, so that made no sense to me.
He pushes Blaine away when he tries to block the TV though heh.
That hair really was awful.
Yes I'm sure people just start dancing when two teenagers randomly break into song on the street.
And I'm sure his modeling photoshoot is playing in Times Square like that.
So now canonically Blaine can play the piano, harmonica, drums, and later on in the episode, guitar. Fourth wall bleed, I see you. Also there was so much in this episode that reminded me of RENT, and this street-drumming was definitely part of it.
Apparently this was just a random fan there watching the filming and Darren went to grab her and danced with her what a lucky girl.
Totally normal for guys to piggyback each other around.
Good now they've inspired Sam he can go get a haircut. Also I really like this song but in my head it's the Cadbury song because the first time I heard it was on the Cadbury Easter commercial where people are running around a museum finding chocolate eggs.
THIS CLASS WAS SO RIDICULOUS.
HIS FACE KURT SPENDS 95% OF THIS EPISODE BEING ABSOLUTELY DONE WITH EVERYBODY AND I LOVE IT.
Yes, Blaine, following him into all of his classes is probably going a bit far.
I did love the whole "you're in a box, it feels big, but it's getting smaller...and smaller..." and you can see the realization dawning on Kurt's face.
I didn't realize he'd brought a reference photo heh.
"Bronytail", tho. "Bronytail."
At this stage it's like late-90s-boyband.
BUT YES THE FIRST TIME I SAW A PICTURE OF HIM WITH THE NEW HAIRCUT I WAS SO HAPPY IT MAKES HIM LOOK SO MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE.
Blaine and his Soda Stream help.
Kurt's still done with the world.
I've always wondered what the soda from there tastes like, actually, because it seems like a good idea but I'm not convinced it actually tastes like, you know, Coke.
Okay, Rachel was horrible here but it was also kind of hilarious because Rachel when she's self-absorbed and completely oblivious is funny.
Artie's "you're comparing my thousand dollar laptop to pocket change???" face
Blaine's way too nice. And Rachel being all, "are those Meyer lemons? (which, Meyer lemons are expensive why are they buying those anyway?) Oh no, I can't have that" and Diva-ing off.
It's only a matter of time until he snaps.
But then we get the couch and Kurt's first instinct is to lie on it and give Blaine a 'come hither' look yes Kurt you go and christen all the furniture.
See he's even patting the cushion for Blaine to sit down.
ICK THIS MAKES MY SKIN CRAWL JUST LOOKING AT IT.
still wearing the ring.
Hi Elliott I'm going to miss you I wish Adam didn't have to go on tour so that he could stay for the rest of the season you were so lovely :(
Kurt's face at hearing how perfect he and Blaine are together he's so smug.
I really liked this song, too, but again, any excuse to have Adam singing is a good one, even though the song itself had such a clunky introduction that didn't flow with the episode at all.
And I guess this guitar shop is just cool with letting them come in and jam now and again.
Yay crowd-surfing.
Really, the only thing I was disappointed in here was the day they filmed this Adam tweeted this picture, and we never got to see these outfits like what happened I need this:
Still, Elliott was such a good friend to Kurt and Adam had lovely chemistry with everybody.
Okay, this I didn't get. She's been in New York for...what? Fourteen months now? And is claiming she 'hasn't gotten to see the city?' What's she been doing all this time???
They stay zoomed in on this sign for forever and I have no idea why.
Oh Blaine. Questioning Kurt's design choices is never a good idea.
Sam not quite believing that there wasn't a dead body lying there.
Yay hugs.
Also Blaine's already got a pretty good bubble butt going on he doesn't need those things.
This whole fight though.
"I was with Elliott"
"I bet you were with Elliott."
"We're just friends."
"I bet you're just friends."
Like obviously Blaine still has some major jealousy/insecurity issues but it was still hilarious.
And like, I'd much rather have drama than them being happy in the background so this was fine by me.
Sir you are wider than his wheelchair you have no right to tell him to move out of the way.
He looks so relieved that Blaine isn't moving in. One thing I loved about his character was that he had absolutely no tolerance for drama.
Like his face when Blaine's all, 'you didn't friend me! And you don't have to wear gel!' he's so over it already.
Also the fact that he just shoves a guitar at Blaine to calm him down this is also something that will work on me.
And he's a lovely outside voice of reason because that's something Blaine especially really needed. Like, I get the mentality that after so long apart both physically and as boyfriends Blaine would want to always be there almost as a way to prove his loyalty, but he was overdoing it and Kurt, I think, was probably too afraid of completely pushing him away to tell him to slow down a bit.
This is why you need to stick around.
This scene was pure Darren and Adam and it was still great.
Rachel being a good friend
Even if I doubt she could do much against anybody over about 5'8", but hey, she's trying.
And this scene really reminded me of RENT except they weren't singing 'Santa Fe', but otherwise...
Everybody in New York is so cool with just breaking into song and dance at random moments!
More hugs. There were a lot of hugs this episode.
Sam regretting his decision to move out.
This conversation!!!! I know a lot of people think it's a step backward or just another way to keep Klaine apart, but since we know from spoilers they interact a lot in upcoming episodes I'm...not too worried about that, I guess? This episode was a nice taste of domestic!Klaine but I think that would get boring if that's all they were, and as somebody that, like Kurt, would feel absolutely smothered if I had to be around the same person all the time, I totally get the reasoning behind this. Blaine really does need to learn and grow by himself for a little while because Kurt's had that for a year and it's changed him for the better, and Blaine needs to find his own little niche in the city and at NYADA without depending on Kurt to be there for him all the time.
And I'm so, so glad we got to see them talk it out, and both sides of the conversation, actually on-screen for once as opposed to just hearing about it or having it be implied.
Also Chris' acting in this scene was A+ this is the most...connected I've seen him be in regards to Klaine in a long time. this whole episode, actually, he was really present throughout all of it and it made a huge difference.
And this line about "I don't want to lose something very precious to me" just reminded me of a song that has almost the exact same lyrics and is one of my favorite songs, except it's in Japanese so I doubt it's related at all, but the song is about learning from your past and moving forward while keeping hold of what's most important and it feels applicable to this scene. (it's
this song and even if you can't understand the words the melody is still great :) )
See, in the old days we would have just gotten the hug and that would have been it, but this is New York Glee so we get this instead:
Also face-grabbing.
And then this part which I did not expect from Glee but between Kurt talking about make-up sex and his face when Blaine's kissing his neck I'm onboard for more of this. And a gif just because the way his eyes roll back is hnnnng
Okay, the one thing I didn't like about this scene is, as somebody with anxiety, that that was the thing that seemed to set Sam off and make him leave. Like I get that it was supposed to be ridiculous and show how hard some models are on their bodies, but seriously "do you have anything for anxiety?" "i'm gonna leave now k bye" like...no.
Sam just comes over and plops in Blaine's chair.
YES RACHEL COVERING YOUR FACE DRAMATICALLY IS DEFINITELY GOING TO HELP.
THEIR FACES. But I'm glad Artie got his stuff back.
And now Blaine comes and plops on Kurt's chair like is there not enough seating space in that loft? Also Blaine's wardrobe this episode was, for the most part, much more mature and nice, except for this one bowtie.
HI MERCEDES.
Rachel you're being useless trying to look cute won't help you.
Okay, I always loved Samcedes, so I am very happy about this.
Very happy.
But Mercedes setting boundaries is very nice as well.
"Some people just don't know how to screw things" apparently Chord just ad-libbed this line a+
Kurt what is that jacket that looks like something from Elliott's wardrobe.
His face when looking at Kurt that's my face too.
So what are they going to have Rachel sing for opening night since they've already done all the big songs from this musical.
Cute.
And instead of everybody dancing around now everybody's wearing black and looking bored much more normal.
Chord looked really hot in this scene it needs a gif to truly show it though:
And even if they're not living together, they're still holding hands walking down the street and buying flowers so things are okay.
Those cupcakes look good I want one.
There is a lovely dynamic in New York now and I'm very happy about it, and also not really missing Santana's toxicity at the moment.
Anyway, I really, really enjoyed New York Glee and while next week looks like it's going to be Emmy bait for Chris, I hope it's done well and I hope the show continues like this because I did not miss Lima at all.
Thoughts?
