Well, well, it's the end of an era! And in a lot of ways, this did feel like a series finale, but I think that was the point.
I've seen a lot of posts on tumblr about how this was a 'finale' to the show, and how everything was wrapped up all neatly and if you never watch again, you can still predict how things will go for the characters 'in the future'. But of course, we all know it's not over, and this is just closing the book on one story to start another that (arguably) should have been started a year and a half ago.
Regardless, it was an episode with a lot of nostalgia and a lot of feels.
While playing 'fuck, marry, kill' was kind of funny (although I felt bad for poor Brad, who never got a proper goodbye!), these two talking about their sex lives was not.
Sue agrees with me.
She has a cup from the Lima News I am amused.
THESE TWO ON THE AMAZING RACE THO I'D BE OKAY WITH THAT.
Poor Tina.
Although did we know she was adopted before? Is this new information? Because I don't remember that at all...
Sam thinking they eloped and adopted Russian babies tho Sam what fanfiction have you been reading? But look at Blaine, who managed to get into NYADA on his first try.
Tina's hallucinations are the best so while I felt bad for her, I was also welcoming this.
THE HAIR. Also this next part has to be shown in gifs because a simple screencap will not do it justice:
And one more because obviously the open-mouth-face-grabbing-tongue-action needs to be studied in greater detail:
AND WE WERE ALL WORRIED ABOUT THIS SHOW AIRING AT 8 PM OBVIOUSLY EITHER FOX HAS LOOSENED ITS REGULATIONS RE: GAY KISSING OR ELSE GLEE DOESN'T CARE ANYMORE BECAUSE IT ONLY HAS A SEASON LEFT EITHER WAY I AM SATISFIED.
So cute. Although Tina being credited for everything (along with the actual creators of 'Friends') made me laugh.
It's amazing how much Lea looks like Courtney Cox in that wig though. Although I thought, since Rachel is, well, actually named after Rachel from 'Friends', she'd have been Jennifer Aniston.
Boys I think we can see you from Alaska those are some bright colors.
"I'm here to win Tina back! Did I say that out loud?" Yes, you go, Mike, Tina was much saner when she was with you.
Sam always forgetting to wear clothes though. I love that Tina's dream has Klaine making out, Sam wandering around in his underwear, and all the old cast coming back. I like Tina's dreams.
Quinn's little 'why are you drawing attention to us who cares it's not like Glee Club doesn't have a rotating cast of 'who's-dating-who' on a weekly basis'
They're arguing about tots again.
Ahhh I'm not really a big fan of showtunes-esque Broadway-esque numbers but they both sounded amazing.
Santana does not approve of the spotlight in her eyes. Also this was so cheesy my dad and I were laughing so hard.
Rachel looks half pained and half amused. Mike's wondering why this isn't music he can dance to.
...Santana was awful in this scene. Like, I may not always like Rachel, but this was her dream part, and she worked really hard for it, and she's still working really hard to perfect it, and even though she went over the top about her rage with Santana trying out for the understudy position, she's trying to be amiable here and actually offering to skip shows so Santana can be on Broadway. For Rachel, that's a really mature thing to do.
And then Santana just throws it back in her face with 'no I want all of them who cares about you' like...no.
Sorry, Santana. Usually I can see your point of view, but you lost me here.
...why are all of the ex-Glee-clubbers (and Blaine) sitting in on the 'Animal Husbandry Club' anyway?
But come on, if people attend this school they've got to know this is a common occurrence.
This maybe not so much.
Again, to fully appreciate Kurt and Blaine's dance moves, have some gifs:
This number was useless but so fun.
Even though these guys look a little frightened.
This reminds me of 'Animal' because of the foam but it still looks so fun.
Yay random dance numbers!
That...is a lot of flowers. That probably cost a lot of money. Where did Brittany get the money?
This scene reminds me why I liked Brittana, and more especially why I liked Santana when she was part of Brittana, because she acted like a normal human being.
And they used Brittany so well in this episode, because when she's the voice of reason it just...works. At this point I believe she knows Santana well enough to know what she's really feeling, and she's one of the few people Santana will actually listen to.
And Santana does look happy with her.
I like Brittany's sweater. Blue jays are such gorgeous birds, although they can get super loud when they're nesting right outside your house!
This segue was so awkward, with her, "I'm gonna be a loser forever!" "You mean...like me?" Glee, fix the sloppy writing.
But I love love love this arrangement. Even though some of the lyrics sound ridiculous slowed down ("I'm not thinkin' bout' you haters'" and such) the piano riff is haunting and beautiful and the harmonies are gorgeous and it sounds like a ballad instead of a KidzBop song.
It was kind of depressing to keep seeing the choir room getting emptier and emptier though :(
I think at this point my dad was complaining about Blaine wearing a bowtie with a polo shirt as if he hasn't done that for the past three seasons.
more Blina, but at least there was Klaine to balance it out this week.
Yeah, and then this resolution was really quick, but I'm glad this feud thing is over (even if that's not the case in real life, because Naya has been throwing some serious shade at Lea in interviews lately)
For once I feel for you.
This song was cute and feel-good but there's been so many Pezberry duets lately it wasn't exceptional.
Look at them pretending to be friends!
Random Tike moment.
"Yay totes friends!"
Kurt and Mercedes are happy their tots-plan worked.
They look like guilty children. Well, Will looks like a guilty child. Holly looks like a petulant one.
She looks so shocked that he's giving up.
Artie being all happy about what he thinks is a booty call heh.
For maybe the last time *sniff* HI BRAD!
THIS MADE ME SO HAPPY I HAVE BEEN WAITING FIVE YEARS FOR A QUICK DUET AND THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS (even though I wanted Klaine to sing it last season after their break-up) AND THEY CHANGED IT ENOUGH THAT THEY COULD HIT ALL THE NOTES AND I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE THE VERSION NOW.
Mark and Dianna have always had really great chemistry.
All the newbies look so bored.
<3
Now Ryder's smiling. Rachel just sort of looks wistful.
Quinn's little "We never actually dated heh lol"
Santana being all "I actually approve of this pairing" well she's slept with both of them so she'd know, I guess. Also this is the one time this episode I agree with her.
I've wanted this since season one I'm so pleased.
I love that she's all hand-waving the people cat-calling in the background.
Sad bbs.
More sad bbs. There was a lot of green in this episode, I've noticed, and like dark green, so apparently that was the designated color of sadness and nostalgia this episode.
This video was really cute, even though it was such a 'New Normal' shout-out to begin with and then it got even more meta-y.
Brittany referencing the duck that never existed, though. I wonder if she still thinks a 'Ballad' is a duck.
SAM.
Puck's whole "that sweater's legit" and "I'm a relatively nice person most of the time now" Puck I love you.
Speaking of ducks, Kurt's wearing his mallard pin again. And here we have the gay couple using a pretty blonde teen mother as their surrogate for their children. Hmm, that sounds suspiciously like another show Ryan Murphy pitched that only lasted one season. Hmm.
Aww, even Sue had something nice to say.
THEIR FACES.
Okay, so Kurt's lower register sounded super weird on the recording the first time I heard it, but he's intentionally imitating Finn and that just makes it sad.
And after he does that Will just does this quick look up to Heaven and okay, this is the type of thing that does give me feels, because it's subtle and respectful and fits in the context of the show and isn't made to manipulate the audience the way the whole Nationals episode was.
The originals. They've come so far
And I really like how it went from the originals -> the others that joined Glee in season one -> everybody else.
I actually don't know why Blaine was on this song but his harmonies were nice so it wasn't strange.
And the dancing sequence was really neat.
Of course Jake has to get in with the backflips.
And then all the people that can dance.
They filmed this live after the episode had wrapped otherwise (so Sam's wearing a wig here because Chord had already gotten his hair cut by this time) and you can tell because of things like this where Naya smacks Darren in the face accidentally:
I really hope they don't do this song again, but this was a good version of it!
Why are they congratulating themselves they didn't really do anything.
Okay, so this was a little disappointing. The newbies filmed a song with Will and April (well, Will and April were singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart") at a planetarium and they released some promo stills that looked really cool, and they released the song which sounded good, and then...they cut that scene and gave them a 30-second blip as a send-off. This was the actual scene:
Instead we get Interrupting Tina.
And then a tiny, "well, it was fun to be part of it for a while" and a tiny Jyder moment and goodbye.
YAY KLAINE HUG.
...I DIDN'T NOTICE AT FIRST THAT RACHEL AND MIKE ARE HOLDING THE SIGNS OKAY THAT'S PRECIOUS.
This was my favorite Becky episode in a while. Because she had no lines.
THE BAND DUDES GET TO GRADUATE!
"Yay I got into Brown which means I'll show up every few episodes because it's close to New York!"
"YAY FRIENDS!"
Aww, I'm glad she got to graduate <3
"So here's the reason I'm going to be gone a few episodes it's because we're off traveling okay good we have an excuse now."
...okay, I still kind of ship them.
This is so depressing.
I wonder if Will will really coach Vocal Adrenaline. I guess we'll find out in episode 17 when he and Sue and Santana and Tina all show up in New York.
HIS FACE.
...this is really sad.
this is even sadder. Even though it's past time for the show to move on, there are a lot of good memories about that choir room and with the 'To Sir, From Love' voice-overs in the background it was just...sad.
So? Thoughts on the end of an era?
Excited for next week? I am:
