Hi. I wonder if there are more Black Sails fans here? Do you know if there are any specialized communities for posting fanworks, recs or meta for it? And do you like or dislike any particular ships or characters?

So a few years back I set up a Temeraire Fanart and Fic Exchange (A Summer of Temeraire) and it was pretty fun.

Having taken a minor hiatus from projects, I'm back in the game and was wondering if there was any interest around here for a 2013 exchange, tentatively called "150 Days of Temeraire".

In a novel I came accross, set in the late 18th century, a Royal Navy officer (2nd Lt. if I remember correctly) is sentenced to hang for taking part in a mutiny. Now I've read that hanging was the common punishment for mutineers. But so far all the secondary material I've read (both Lavery and Cordingly) also suggests an officer, sentenced to death ( Read more... )

I've got a query. I know I read in an AoS novel about the captain taking six more Marines and a Sergeant on board, from the Chatham division, who were later identified as taking part in planning a mutiny. The guy reporting it to the captain notes that the speaker he overheard was one of the Chatham marines because he was wearing 'the badge on the ( Read more... )

Today I bought this painting at a local thrift store. It's not a print, and the previous owner went to some lengths having it framed. However, it looks familiar to me, so I think it's a copy somebody made of some well-known painting. It's very good work, by the way, and I like it a lot, but there are neither a signature nor a date on it.

An author of a marine encyclopedia states that pirate flags: all those skull-and-crossbones and Jolly Rogers never existed and are the invention of Daniel Defoe caught up by R.L.Stevenson and later spread in the naval fiction. Where's the truth, do you think?
