Asking for counsel
So I want to write an AoS story, and the heroes will be: a ship's captain, the first lieutenant, and a young seaman, and their relationship makes everything very complicated. What I dunno which position should I give to the lad? Midshipman? Able seaman? He must be always near the captain, but I don't want to make him an officer, he's too young.
So, I need soem historical help. What's the best position for a 20-22 year old boy which helps him be arond his Captain and protect him from everything (including the lieutenant)? Oh, and it's a man-of-war, and they'll have a lot of battles, but more in their souls than with the French.
