I love the captains'log of HMS Centaur. It is a wonderful read and I cannot thank tootsiemuppet and hyel enough for having given it to me earlier this year. :D

As to Kent,a lot of people love his writing. His hero in the Bolitho series was for the largest part of the books Richard Bolitho You'll have to find out for yourself if you like his writing. He has certainly done some good research beforehand and is good reading.

He is not O'Brian ;D

He is not O'Brian. There can only be one O'Brian.

I like Kent because he's Kent.

And I used to switch between O'Brian and Kent in way I have never done with any other authors, because they are not the other one...

I tried reading Kent. Several times, but he never caught me. Probably the wrong time of year. ;D Maybe I should give him another try.

Well, I never expect a new author to have the same style of writing as anyone else. I suppose I expect to be able to find something to enjoy about a new author's work, so I always do. I am very rarely disappointed, although it has happened.

Disappointment would be too strong a word. When I start browsing pages after a while of reading, I know I'm not in the mood for it. Happens now and then, so one day I'll give the series another try and I might like it.

There's at least one book i can think of off the top of my head where I was disappointed, because the author was making elementary mistakes with technical terms, that would - and should - have easily been corrected. It's an AoS Army novel and the story was actually quite good apart from those silly mistakes, but I couldn't concentrate on the story when I noticed them cropping up.

I almost took a pen to the book to correct it, but didn't quite manage to. Maybe another time, but it'll be age before I reread the book.

I love the captains'log of HMS Centaur.

Was your edition edited by Leo Heaps, published in 1973? *is curious to know whether we've got the same thing*
