Today I watched a generously-sized spider wrap a fly and drag it carefully to her den under the roof light. She was incredibly graceful, and it was no easy task what she had to do, since the entrance to her den was barely big enough for her to crawl past, never mind her plus juicy morsel of food

Incidentally, moths are her favourite snack. There was once a real swarm of moths outside my window (it was mating season, or something) and she caught and ate so many she actually didn't touch her food for a while afterwards. The vet told me not to scold her for it, since bugs were probably healthier food than even the most expensive cat food I could afford. :P
She's not much a mouser, though... she enjoys the chase too much to actually kill them, and the terrified rodents eventually get away.
But yeah, it seems unfair to kill spiders just because they're ugly, since they are actually helping me a bit. It's no fun when mosquitoes bite me somewhere uncomfortable... a couple of times they got me in the eyelid and I couldn't even open my eye for a while. Forget vampires, mosquitoes are the real blood-sucking threat!
