The Doctor sat at the table on the patio outside their room. He stared thoughtfully at Donna through the flowing curtains, as she slept, peacefully he hoped. It wasn't but a couple of hours since Donna had come to the Doctor. There was obviously something wrong. The words spoken were not hers, nor were the actions. No, there was something else going on. This was very, very wrong. This was just supposed to be a night of star gazing and spending some quality time with Donna. But here they were, 3 day later and something had happened to her. Something took over her, it seemed. What could possibly...
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a soft knock on the door to the room that Rek'Ta had allowed them to stay in. As he walked by the bed to answer the door, the Doctor checked on Donna, who was fast asleep and showed no signs of stirring.
Answering the door he saw one of Rek'Ta's older daughters. She must have been about 15 by Earth standards. She was tall for her age, and had a darker complexion than her father.
"My elder wishes to speak with you, sir Doctor," she said to him, bowing her head slightly.
"Yeah," the Doctor turned around and looked at Donna. Keeping the door open, he checked on her one last time, bringing the blankets up around her a little tighter. Walking up to the girl, he told her in a hushed voice, "Get one of your guards to stand watch of my friend here. I need to know if she wakes at all."
"I can stay with her," the young girl offered.
"No," the Doctor stated, giving the girl a smile. "If something were to happen to you, your father would never forgive me."
"But, what could happen?" She asked. How innocent they were, so young. The Doctor had nearly forgotten that.
"I think," the Doctor swallowed the lump in his throat, looking at Donna again. "I think my friend is very ill, and she needs a guard to watch over her and inform me should she wake."
Sighing, the girl reluctantly agreed and left to retrieve one of the guards down the hall.
The Doctor closed the door slightly, and went to go stand by Donna's sleeping form. Taking out his sonic screwdriver, he scanned her body. The reading was odd, and would need to be analyzed further before he fully understood it. But there was defiantly something wrong with Donna.
The door opened slightly, and a guard cleared his throat. The Doctor looked up, and saw the guard acting a bit embarrassed. Looking at Donna, he found out why. He had been caressing her head and cheek without realizing it.
The Doctor moved away from Donna and walked to the door. "Thank you," he said to the guard, "And, if she even just stirs, come and get me."
The guard nodded, and the Doctor walked out the door.

Rek'Ta wanted to talk to the Doctor about the strange happenings, as they called them, that had been happening for a little over a years to this small village. Citizens of all ages, would suddenly die, but only after acting very strange for days, or even weeks. They called it the "Demon".
"The Demon?" The Doctor was intrigued. "Why do you call it that?"
"Because, it seems to posses the people, and then when they pass over the river, it moves to the next person who was with them." Rek'Ta told the Doctor.
The Keterian people were very loyal in their beliefs. No one ever died in their culture, they just simply left there bodies to pass over the river to be with their ancestors. It was a wonderful idea, and a good way for them to deal with the death of the people they loved.
"So, it jumps from person to person," the Doctor stated, and scratched the side of his face in thought. What could possibly do that? What could posses someone, kill them from the inside out, and then jump onto the next person?
"Yes," Rek'Ta continued, "it's hardest when it jumps into the young ones."
"Your children have been possessed as well?" The Doctor was nearly horrified by that.
Children, being killed from the inside out. What could do such a thing.
"That is not all the Demon can do, sir Doctor," Rek'Ta looked very worried. "This Demon can kill others with out even touching them."
"What?" The Doctor said.
Rek'Ta was about to repeat what he had said, when the blood curdling scream of a young woman made them both jump up and run. One of Rek'Ta's daughters was screaming.
Following the screams, they were lead straight to the room that he and Donna occupied. Rek'Ta checked his daughter over to make sure she wasn't hurt. She was standing against the wall, opposite the door that lead into the room, staring in. Her hand covering her mouth as her screaming stopped and her sobbing began.
The Doctor looked into the doorway of the room all he saw was a burnt body. Nothing but chard remains were left. The smell was horrible, but the sight was even more gruesome inside. There was blood spattered everywhere. There was a pool of blood at the edge of the bed, and blood sprayed everywhere else in the room. It was most noticeable on the white curtains and cream colored bed coverings.
"Stay here," the Doctor ordered the father and daughter as he entered the room.
"Do be careful," Rek'Ta told the Doctor as he watched the strange, tall, thin stranger enter the room.
The Doctor looked around and saw nothing else in the room. He practically ran to the bed, only to find it empty. Donna. Where was she?
"No, no, no, no, no," he said, as he moved the sheets around, finding no evidence of her.
He ran into the bathroom and called her name, just to find it empty. He started to panic. What if some of the blood was hers? What if it all was hers?
He ran to the patio, tripping over a chair, and quickly recovering, "Donna!" he yelled as loud as he could. The sun was now high in the sky and made it easier to see out.
In the court yard he saw her. She was walking away from the building, but her stance was tense.
"Donna!" he called after her. She didn't respond, even though he knew that she must have heard him.
The Doctor watched, unable to move as some of the homes guards came up behind her. There were 6 gaurds in the court yard, and 4 of then were coming up behind Donna quickly. He had to get down there before something happened. He had a very bad feeling about this.
Running at full speed, the Doctor slipped as he ran out of the room and quickly turned the corner, and ended up hitting the wall. Not paying any more attention to the people outside the room, he continues running, after recovering from his encounter with the now dented wall.
Slamming the doors open, the Doctor got there just in time to see Donna turn around, and reach towards all 4 guards.
"No!" The Doctor shouted, but he was too late. The guards each started to convulse, and one by one, each caught fire, and burned far to quickly.
Stopping behind them, as they each fell, bodies burnt like the guard in the room, he looked at Donna horrified. Looking into her eyes, all he could see was flames. Her wonder blue eyes now burned like fire.
He slowly, and cautiously tried to approach her, stepping between the bodies of the guards, "Donna?"
She looked at him and cocked her head, blinked and smiled. If he didn't know any better, he would say that she looked like she was in awe looking at him.
"My Angel," she spoke so smoothly, it almost sounded like a purr, "have you come to rescue me? Stay with me this time?"
The Doctor blinked, now very confused. "Angel?"
Donna slowly walked towards him, and ran her hand down the side of his face, "Your light burns so bright. You're beautiful just to look at. Please don't leave me again. I've grown so tired of these bodies. I want to be free with you again."
The Doctor didn't say anything, he just watched her and listened.
Closing her eyes, Donna fell forward. Catching her with a huff of surprise, the Doctor knelt, holding her to his chest.
Donna took a sudden breath in as if she had been holding her breath in and lifted her head from the Doctor's chest. She blinked a couple of times, looked around at her surroundings, until finally looking at the Doctor.
"Doctor?" Donna sounded out of breath and confused. "What... How did I end up out here?"
Helping her to her feet, he asked, "What do you remember?"
"I was with you, in the room and..." she trailed off, and a horrified look came over her. The Doctor turned slightly to see what she had been looking at behind him, and saw the burnt bodies of the guards.
"What happened?" she squeaked out, panic starting to set in. Grabbing the Doctor's arms, she continued, "Did I do that?"
The Doctor was almost afraid to tell her, so he decided to try for a more, beating around the bush answer. "Now, Donna..."
She turned her panicked eyes on him, and was more harsh with her questioning this time, "Did I do that?" It was slow and she punctuated each word.
He couldn't lie to her, not when she was already this upset. "Yes." He told her and instantly regretted it.
"No!" she screamed, lent into the Doctor and sobbed.
All the Doctor could do was hold her as she grieved for the lives that she felt she had taken.

The Doctor pulled away and broke contact, needing a bit of a break. The screen above the bed was flashing, indicating that Donna's heart rate had jumped to high.
“Good thing I stopped a moment,” he said to no one.
The Doctor just sat and waited for Donna's heart rate to return to it's normal resting rate naturally. He watched as it slowly slowed to normal. Taking out the handkerchief that he kept in his pocket, he dabbed the sweat off of her face and around her neck. He hated doing this to her, but she didn't give him a choice. If she would have just waited, he could have figured out a better way. But no. What was done, was done.
“The hardest part is yet to come, for both of us,” he quietly spoke to Donna's sleeping form.
He leaned over her, kiss her forehead, both of her cheeks, and finally, her lips.
“Stay with me, please,” he quietly begged, lightly stroking the side of her face.
Sitting quietly again, he began to touch her temples, only hesitating a moment, before establishing his link with Donna once more.
