Roti, Kapda, Makaan and Environment !

I was at the screening of the Shekar Dattatri's Monsoon - India's God of Life and must say it was simply amazing.Superb camera work and mind-boggling footages. In the Q&A session, one of them asked what could the "normal" people do for the environment to which Shekar convincingly replied that wildlifers aren't born with disease and even they are normal people too. There are so many issues which one could take up or help out esp if you could put in your expertise from your profession.Shekar, i think explained really well to the "normal" people about the necessity to save the environment and the ecosystem. He said that conservation of environment should be synonymous with other human requirements.. Food,Shelther and Clothing needs environment. He cited an excellent example of the Honeybees Disappearing in United States and how it could effect the human life since honeybees handle about 1/3rd of the crop pollination.

The event served as a great place to catch up with people after a long time. One of the interesting personalities I met was Sandeep Chakraborti of Clean and Green Initiative. deponti was there for the last C&G event and so I knew quite a lot about the event. Its a group of dedicated volunteers who go to some location around bangalore and clean up the plastic garbage there. For most of us it might sound stupid ... Oh they plan to clean up the city !. Its not possible to clean up the entire city, but if it can educate and motivate two other people esp locals to keep their city clean, nothing like it. A small step towards a giant cause.

Most of us think that we in Bangalore have a pretty good garbage collection system. Early morning we have the city corporation employees collecting the previous day' garbage from every locality.Recently I happened to see this garbage collector from my locality who collected the early morning grabage and then dumped everything from the trolley to the nearby water stream. The guy has no clue for why he is doing it. That was so ridiculous !

Even the other day when a few of us were driving back to bangalore on Tumkur road, we found a moving bus full of people throwing plastics and other garbage that too on the national highway until our friend stopped the bus and asked them not to do it.C'mon !

For most of us in Bangalore, Nandi Hills is a place to go and chill out. Recently when we were there, we had seen a Kite struggling with the plastic stuck between its legs.
