"We're fools whether we dance or not..."

"... so we might as well dance".

Aka, the most important purpose of this post is for me and franztastisch to flail about certain dancing AU. (Everyone is welcome!) I am working on a long, angsty, serious, full-of-feels fic and I could use some laughs and fun and plotting and ideas and whatever.

Also, the interesting discussion over at be_compromised prompted me to reread ( Read more... )

I think the first fanfiction I ever read was Draco/ Hermione. It's held my love as a ship ever since.

(And I've already told you how excited I am for the dancing fic :))

I adore Draco/Hermione - I thought I could never like it, and then started tor ead out of sheer curiosity. I am so glad I was converted! (my most "popular" story on AO3 is D/Hr.)

Yeeeees, I seriously need to go into that one once I'm done with Nat's baby 'verse. Oh Clint and all of his emotional issues and working through them. It's quite hard to write but I like what I'm doing with it. :))))

Any things I should definitely put into dancing AU? :D

Fun costumes! Witty banter!

Other than that, I don't know, whatever. Ridiculous theme nights? A subtle critique of reality television? A subtle critique of people who critique reality television?

YEEEEES to all of those. (I tried doing a subtle critique of celebrity world in actors AU. I can poke at reality television, as most of it, at least what we have here, isn't fun like SCD).

But yes, costumes, banter, dancing, ridiculous theme nights and bonus dancing numbers and ALL THE FUN THINGS YES YES YESSSSSSS.

Fun!

Yeah, I caught the critique in the bit of the actors AU I read (I couldn't really finish it, 'cause I was reminded of RPF, which I have an allergic reaction to for no good reason). Celebrity culture: it's messed up.

RPF tends to make me very very uncomfortable. I admit all those fun interviews with Avengers cast were an inspiration, but I also did my best not to slide into RPF. It was pretty challenging. I understand if you couldn't finish it, though, lot of people said "oh this reminded me of cast interviews". I was aware I wouldn't be able to completely avoid that comparison.

Celebrity culture is so so mind boggling. I avoid it like a plague, but since it's everywhere? You can't completely run away.

From what I saw you did a pretty good job. Some of it's just the casting. I think everyone gets Robert Downey Jnr. confused with Tony Stark.

Yah. I have a rant about that which I should probs let out soon. But that's another post for another day :)

Seriously is there a difference between Tony Stark and RDJ? Ah yes, RDJ said Tony has slightly more money. /joking

I learned how some of this stuff works - attention, fame, gossip (social psychology is awesome for that); so I understand the mechanism and why it intrigues people. But it's.... mind boggling and decadent and sometimes downright toxsic. And yes, a whole rant in itself, and I guess I could write several posts about what bothers me. I like work related interviews with actors or musicians, and I like the pretty. But things like that article about Heidi Klum and her nipple slip while she was rescuing two people out of the ocean? I find that really disgusting.

Yeah, I literally couldn't believe my eyes when I read about it. On what was supposedly a news website, so less. People.

Here is an interesting article about reality television, even if it is from the huffington post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kareem-abduljabbar/the-real-housewives_b_3132360.html?utm_hp_ref=tw

The competition shows are like any other sports show: just plain fun to watch. The thrill over someone winning and disappointment over someone losing is riveting entertainment. Whether it's talented chefs trying to out-flambé each other, or edgy fashion designers out-draping each other, there is little that is more dramatic than people at the top of their game competing.
