Font Dork

No other word exists but WEIRD.

It is WEIRD being back here.

(BACK STORY: I lived in Minnesota from 1986-1987, and again from 1990-2000 [off and on between 1996 and 2000]. This is the second-longest amount of time I have lived anywhere - except Ohio [1978-1986, and again from 2000-2006].)

Rabbit and I went shopping AGAIN yesterday. We forgot things. He forgot shaving gel. He looks like a woolly mammoth that's short, round, and walks upright. 'Do I look like I came out of the backwoods?' he asked. I was honest sister and said no. Close. But no. And we forgot to get me a map of the Cities so I know what I'm about. We had to go to Barnes and Noble for that. The old one off Plymouth Road that I worked in for 2-weeks almost exactly 10 years ago. But it was completely remodelled. I thought he meant going to Borders, which is over there too. But he meant B&N. And so we went to B&N.

I was in a fey mood. Fairy mood, I termed it long ago. Sometimes the fairy side takes over - and that's the result. Neither of us bought a book. Sadly, they didn't have anything I was interested in. And all the Stephen Fry they carried were The Liar and Revenge - The ONLY TWO books of his I've actually read. (I think the only one I haven't is Paperweight.) And there was nothing in the fantasy area. Except I happened to find myself drawn to one of the Elric stories, The Dreamthief's Daughter. . . Am now kicking myself for leaving more books behind in Ohio. Including the ones Deb gave me. All the non-fic I have is the Dragonlace book I felt compelled to peruse again (read: ELVES) ... and Oliver Twist. Oh wait, I do have another.... Joanne Harris, Gentlemen and Players. So maybe I'm all right with the books... And there are libraries... Penitentiaries for books.

But I got my Astrology calendar. And Rabbit had a good chuckle over the EXTREME IRONING calendar. I thought he might buy it, but then he remembered that Dad had given each of us a calendar while we were in NYC together. He still has his. Although mine are in Colorado. Because I expected to have my things by now. Life is droll that way.

We also went furniture shopping. But that's boring and I don't want to talk about that. Though I have to say it's amazing what passes for "liveable" furniture these days... And we only had two employees ask us if we needed help with something. Two, in the whole HOUR we were there... That seem right to you?

We got back after a Target run. I purchased push-pins (thumbtacks to some of you) so I could put up my Labyrinth posters that Kristen gave me a couple months ago. There are eight posters, but only FOUR posters. Reversible, you see. Isn't that sneaky of them? I wanted more Jareth on my wall. I have the nicest one (in my opinion) right over my computer, in my 'work space'. It has Sarah in her ball gown and Jareth looking very dapper in his sparkly ball suit (complete with sparkling cravat pin!) and around the picture, in this lovely flourished font, it recites Sarah's quote:

Through dangers untold
and hardships unnumbered,
I have fought my way here
to the castle beyond the goblin city,
for my will is as strong as yours
and my kingdom is great.
You have no power over me.

And I wanted to know if the font in the print was Zapfino. Zapfino was made by hardworking elves over at Apple, Inc., and comes with Mac OSX. It's a lovely font. In fact, I think it's used in my userinfo splashy graphic thing. BANNER. Yes, that's the word.

So I checked the font to see. Wrote out 'through dangers' and saw that ... no, it isn't quite the same. But the H's had the same round flourish... The P's are much, much different. So It has to be a similar font. I looked it up. Google: Font Zapfino Similar. And came up with Linotype Zapfino.

I'm a nerd. I like to know things.

Today is my last day of fun before my 'hardships unnumbered' begins. Actually, it will most likely have to end sometime today rather than tomorrow, as I haven't yet prepped my cv. Though it won't need much work but a change of address at the top.... Rabbit will print it out for me at his work. And I'll ring up a couple of non-corporate coffee shops tomorrow and ask if they're hiring, if they take resumés, etc.... Shouldn't be too bad.

Just want to thank those of you that read The Shell and the Pearl and showed me some lovin'. It was kind of you. I wanted to get that story out of my system, because I'd been thinking about it for three months. And I've about reached my limit writing fanfics.

I mean to work on The Last Dragon Thief today. Haven't worked on it since .... It's probably been a week. And it's not getting read (except by you, lovely Belinda). If I release part of it today, it'll be a small part, and we'll see if that helps.
