I'm only halfway kidding. I can't help but wonder if Flashmobs have hit their lifespan and need to be done. I mean, everyone loved the Antwerp Sound of Music one (in fact, that's probably another robot test - if you don't like it; you're a robot). And of course, the Oprah/Black Eyed Peas one was fabulous.
But now they're doing singing ones. And ... they're not working. I think, although I'm willing to be wrong, that the problem with a choral flashmob (as opposed to a dancing one), and the problem with doing a well-known piece of music, is that anyone who has sung in any choir, ever, pretty much joins in. Maybe I'm only thinking that because I saw two "Hallelujah Chorus" flashmobs in a single week. I wonder if choral flashmobs need more stringent rules (!), like everyone wears the same colors, or it shouldn't be a well-known song ... or there needs to be a minimum number of participants, or something?
Maybe flashmobbing needs to be left to a physical activity - something with movement. At minimum, regardless of the kind of flashmob you're conducting, you need a critical mass. 10 people dancing doesn't cut it.
Just this morning I saw a flashmob of a bunch of teachers and staff at a school assembly. Um ... by definition, I'm not sure it's a flashmob. Maybe it was just a "performance"?
So there you have it. The opinionated girl has an opinion on everything. Including stuff that doesn't matter.
