Re: restitution for missing items
To Whom it May Concern --
I travel a lot -- probably 20 or so trips a year, a majority of them from DEN to EWR. In recent trips, I have noticed that my cosmetics bag in my checked luggage has been tampered with, with no "Notice of Baggage Inspection" included in my bag. I'm confident I even know what item might have been questionable on an xray -- a set of two pair of tweezers, purchased from Sephora:
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P39724&categoryId=B70. Clearly, two pair of tweezers is a lot of metal and appears suspicious. I'm fine with that, and it's sort of obvious that that is the problem. However, each time, the inspector who has checked them out has made it obvious that he/she has looked at them. They come in a little plastic cylinder with a lid, and both have a little plastic cover to protect the tips. I've always kept them in the cylinder, with the tip covers. Investigators tend to put them back loosely in my cosmetics bag, or without the protective tips, or one in the tube and one out ... upon getting to my hotel in New Jersey on Sunday night the 6th, I found both pair out of their tube and one of the protective tips in my suitcase.
Oddly, last Christmas (2006), I told a story my family didn't believe -- that when I opened my cosmetics bag in my hotel room, I had two pair of tweezers in the plastic tube inside my bag, but they weren't my tweezers! My bag must have been searched next to someone else's bag with the same set, and when the bags were re-packed, they gave me someone else's tweezers! You might find it hard to believe that I'd notice that, but my old set must have been a set they didn't sell anymore, and the ones I found in my bag are the set they carry now. The two sets are similar, but noticeably different, in size.
Being totally skeeved out by someone else's tweezers, I purchased a new set (the ones behind the link above) and those are the ones I've been travelling with for the last year, with noticeable TSA tampering most trips. Well, my most recent trip is the last straw. Your investigators DID include the "Notice of Baggage Inspection" (thanks for that -- it's nice to know you didn't lose your mind when you're unpacking), and they DID very obviously go through my cosmetics bag ... again. Guess what? When they re-packed, they LEFT OUT MY TWEEZERS!
Please let me know where I can send the receipt for a new set of Sephora Tweezerman
tweezers. I will be purchasing a new pair and would like reimbursement.
Thank you --
